Hi all, been awhile since I've posted. Had a computer go down...but mainly have been busy with my music production biz.
Turned out that the core band got shafted out of two separate New Year's Eve gigs that we rely upon. Then, a venue had a surprise opening ( they did not know if they were going to even be open, so did not book a band for the night. Their fortunes improved, so I got on the horse and booked for the "Joey Five & Dimes" Blues Revue. ) I was able to recruit some awesome players for the night.
Anyone else busy for NYE ?

Welcome back, LJS. A LOT has happened around here since you have been gone...
I was really hoping to have a good gig for NYE this year, but nothing panned out. I will say this, though-it's a holiday, and to play you'll be pulled away from your family and friends most probably, so hold out for the BIG BUCKS! ----------

My band is at our "home base", Otey's on NYE. I'm trying to fight off a wicked chest cold. Hoping I can play and sing through it without too many noticeable effects.
I actually have 6 gigs lined up for January already. And about the same for February. Things are looking pretty good.

To noodle or not to noodle, well I have a gig friday, and its with someone i have jammed with 3 times in the past 1 1/2 years ,and its like always a set or 2 of songs ive never practiced they might be covers like a classic rock or a heavy rock original, the point is he tells me the key about a minute befor it begins, the only thing i can do is noodle some biker bar harp on the spot that kind of fits,Im sure ive told the story of started playing small money gigs at 3 months where all i could do was some biker bar harp on the spot.for a few gigs untill i said hey I need to put some wood shed time in,I have been woodshedding for over a year, learned what noodling meant in that time, but still noodle some trying to get past it ;-).BUT fri i will have to noodle its my only option really i have no idea what being played,And they dont do the 12 bar type blues,I wish they did,They called me last night asked me to be in Tulsa Fri.They really seem to like what i noodle. And the crowd seems to like it the other 3 times we jammed, but I know its noodling I know now and would like some regular blues even if its original blues type jams, but that probelly wont happen,Its still fun and free beer and a couple bucks. But im like I hope there aint no good harp players there.what should i do?

Given the exigencies, I worked out with the owner that the band gets the gate ( $10/person ), so I'm hoping for a good house. Other venues with live music are demanding much higher, and I have developed a fan base. If we get 50 or more it will be a fair night, especially with less than two weeks to put together. But , heck...it's not like I'm new at this. ( BTW, IF you work this kind of deal, be sure and have someone from YOUR side working the door and keeping the cash locked up.
@ Bb Bob ... get some "sugar ginger". You can find it in the Oriental food section of grocery stores or specialty shops. It's kinda wicked at first, but sure helps with the head colds. Good luck to all.

Don't snort it! Oh dear, that would sting. Every year we plan on having a big bonfire for NYE but it almost never comes through.

I hate getting sick. I can't take any of the good cold medicines because of a drug interaction. I cheat and use Afrin, but no Nyquil, no Delsym, no Robitussin, no Mucinex.

With all the combinations i used to take of Quote(HOMEmade cold remidies) I can take mix alot of different things and and not feel to bad, although I dont mix much anymore,The VA DRs at 1 time had me on 7 scripts of stuff,I think i was a ginny pig oink oink;-) but the above mentioned mix does wonders I can be so sick in bed take that combination and im up and ready at least untill the tabs ware off.But that will get you feeling like new for about 5 hours.
1 mucinex 2 lorotabs any combination that equals 15mg 1 big shot of Day quil 1 good shot of whisky take as needed but dont over due it.

I have a gig playing bass, in a quartet I have played for 30+ years. It's a gentle but nice gig we have done the last 2 years. 9:30 to 12:30 for a social dance club of about 60 members. We will play the rumba, samba, tango, fox-trot, merenge', cha-cha, polka, and what ever they ask. We are true mercenaries, but we get praised and asked back for doing what the crowd wants.
I may play "The Tenesee Waltz" on the harp, but that's it. ---------- intermediate level (+) player per the Adam Gussow Scale, Started playing 2001

I'm playing my duo show at a place called Olga's, a restaurant/bar here in Jackson owned by two Russian expats. Amazing food, good vibe. I haven't played on NYE in about six years... won't do so unless the price is right. This year, it is.

we were scheduled to play NYE and make a good chunk of dough, for us. The venue owner canceled us today...couldn't fill the room. Things are tough all over! ----------

Just finished with a practice. Scrammed in 50 songs ... five quality players. Doing cool jazz early, then West Coast Swing, then Chicago/Kansas City/Memphis/St.Louis Blues..heavy doses of Butter, and closing with Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher" , the full version. Have numerous guests appearing throughout the night. Some from Pango-Pango !

I'm getting the gear loaded in the truck. It's pouring outside and it looks like the whole band is guzzling cough syrup to make it through the night. Maybe the Butterfield tunes will be a bit more Buttery tonight. ;^).
