I have only been on a few months and dont do a lot of postings but I do read most threads. I am so confused heres.

One of the first posts I read on here was an off topic post about TV's. A guy who I believe his name was Rabbit made a comment about watching Christians be killed. Nothing was said by any moderators. Another member I believe named Jostoge commented that he should be kicked off for being a "jackass". They were bother kicked off after that. strange......

Hermonica responded to a post with a question that could be taken many different ways, but he did not break any cread that I know of. Zhin responded by calling him a "f'ing moron". Zhin was not kicked off. eventually Zhin was because he took the bait from Zhin.

Buddha, who I didnt know personally, seemed to be a lightning rod for attacks on here and he wouldnt back down.

Adam commented in a recent thread that one reason Buddha was kicked off was he posted about religion (Astrology). In the same thread Adam commented that men act different around full moons. he also said "Christmas is upon us. I consider the Christmas a spirit an ecumenical spirit."

I am lost here........

I've just wasted a minute reading this having expected it to have something to do with harp playing, or maybe making dough for bread!

Just lock it now before it all goes mental again.....Please :o)

Suffice it to say, Adam's human, just as we all are. His job as King of the Ring here isn't always clear-cut. As with any 'ruler' he is forced to make decisions sometimes that might not be popular with everyone, but they seemed to be the right thing at the time. Now that a few others, including myself, have joined the ranks of the Powers that Be, we too will be saddled with making some decisions that might not be popular with others.

So, to avoid pushing more buttons, let's not question Adam's past decisions. As I said, he's been in the awkward psotion of pulling the trigger a few times recently that might put him in a bad light, but if the tables were turned and YOU were the administrator, what would you do? Also bear in mind that no one monitors this site 24/7(I sure hope not), so sometimes the inmates seem to run the asylum. Be patient, but if all hell is breaking loose(i.e., SPAM), click on our profiles, and drop us a line.

Be nice.

I was not questioning he decisions. I think overall he does a great job. My point that I dont think I ever got around to saying was with consistency we way avoid problems in the future. We someone comes out with a crude comment ban them before anything else happens. We are all human and when someone makes a comment like kill Christians all calls you a F'ing Moron, you are of course going to respond. And when people respond they are getting kicked off for it. Thats what a have a problem with.

I get and understand your point. Cruelty and ridicule for any reason shouldn't be tolerated. The minute it gets nasty, we moderators need to convene and shut it down in an appropriate manner. But, perhaps some of the past decisions(or lack thereof)were in the spirit of giving the benefit of doubt, and that the issue would work itself out? That seldom happens here, but there's hope...right?

It's also human nature to defend our beliefs-sometimes you can only turn the other cheek so much, and some of us are better than others at ignoring it. I know of one such situation that you are referring to. Was justice served? Maybe not. Knowing that happened, maybe if the deleted and presumably innocent party were to email Adam and plead his case, he'd be reinstated? As we've all seen here, Adam is very forgiving-but he isn't clairvoyant, I don't think.

Yes, well said Todd.

RT, remember the law of the land is open to interpretation and it's interpreted differently by different mods. I always try to be consistent. GH, for instance, always tried to be consistent. That doesn't mean that a combination of Adam and GH and me will be totally consistent. We try.

PS- As soon as I have all the admins emails we will call a council and divide the world into private harmonica empires! MUHAHAHA

I call dibs on everything south of the Masie-Dixie line(as Yosemite Sam would call it), since I speak their native tongue, and have eaten possum and armadillo on purpose at least once.

In short, were there no moderators, those folks who don't know how to conduct themselves, or take pleasure in pissing folks off, or go waaaay too far off the site's topic too often, would rule the place, or make it miserable for folks who come here with a sincere desire to learn or share their knowledge with others. Same reason we have police in modern societies-sometimes we all don't play nice.

Oh, and spammers would take over. This place would be one-stop shopping for viagra, gucci handbags, gold and maybe even harmonicas.

Blueharper, sometimes people get to arguing. The three things you watch for first are trolls and spammers and just general arguments.

Trolls are posters who only post to make people angry. They deliberately argue because it gets them attention.

Spammers post tons of links for their website all over the place. There are generally two reasons spammers spam. One is to get you to buy their product. We used to get spam every time the words wow and gold got used in the same post. (There was a thread about gold plated harmonicas. It wasn't pretty.)

Basically those spammers wanted you to click on their link. The other, even more insidious time is the Google spammer. They submit gibberish posts with tons of links to the site they are promoting, and they submit tons of posts. It's particularly bad on a site like this where the most recent posts are on top. We had times where the spam posts were 7 pages deep. All they want to do is to put links all over the place. Then, when Google comes by, it thinks, hey, this popular site has all sorts of links to this jewelry site. That must be a good jewelry site. Let's raise it in the rankings.

They thought they were being clever by posting on old posts, but since a post returns a thread to the front page it would bury everything. Mods could delete the posts, at first only one at a time, but then later at least in groups on the same thread. Admins could ban the spammer, but sometimes mods would be furiously deleting spam and the spammer would still be out there.

A couple really bad weekends we got hit multiple times. Once I spent 2-3 hours in one night deleting posts. From one attack. The next day we got hit again. (GH got most of them that time.) The CAPTCHA's have helped a lot. I know they are annoying, but they are useful.

Then there are arguments between members. Sometimes they get out of hand. I've seen arguments on forums run across multiple threads, and even multiple forums. People take sides. People quit. I'm an optimist. I tend to think most people are pretty good people, but even if 1 out of 100 is a complete maroon they can wreak havoc on a site. Even good people, on a bad day, can cause a fight. Most of the time all a mod needs to do is remind people of the forum creed and things calm down.

RT123 - I'm not a moderator, but it's pretty easy to get along here.

It won't take long, before you learn who are the people with explosive or volatile personalities or who appear to be mentally unstable. I avoid their posts.

I keep a mental list of names. When I see them post, I ignore their postings completely. I have another list of names, when I see their name pop up, I read what they have to say. I don't share the names on either list.

Finally, every forum has an owner. You have to play by their rules or you can find another place to play.

As for taking the place serious, Blueharper-I like to have a good laugh as much as the next guy, and if there weren't some 'fun' involved, the seriousness, albieit good inofrmation, would run me off. The minute anyone takes themselves so seriously that they lose their sense of humour, they're as good as dead. Knowing the limits and not going too far with the 'fun' is key. Some folk's idea of fun is trying to make people lose their cool and go off on a bent tangent-this would be a 'troll'. I despise trolls.
All in all, this forum is a pleasant place-even a 'fun' place-to learn and share, make new musical discoveries(I have made many, thanks to members here), and even real-life friends-I have made a few because of this forum. Some of the threads get a little heavy and negative, though, and go on incessantly. Those are the ones I normally avoid, unless I'm trying to lighten the mood, as they are buzzkills. I think if we as members(and mods)of this forum can keep our tempers in check, and avoid topics that are button-pushers, this would be a happier place.

@ Zhin, Troll? Was that directed at me? The way I understand it a troll is someone who comes here to attack and be negative. I simply put a few examples of how arguements get started. My purpose was to make suggestions to improve the forum.

I dunno. It just seems like beating a dead horse.

And the timing couldn't be more convenient especially after the flames subsided.

Sounds more like somebody just wants more hostile reactions. But hey, what do I know right?

Move along, nothing to see.

when you post in a thread it brings it back up to the front page and "reanimates" it, if you will. So if you want to ignore someones post and move along, then let it be. posting a reply is beating a dead horse, or at least being there while it is beaten.

happy holidays!
