Bach wrote so much religous music. It
would be banned from the forum.

@Diggs: No, as i understand it, he would only be banned if combined it with astrology. I think devotional music by itself is probably okay.

Are we going to see new thread after new thread about how unfair life and internet forums are?

Diggs, the thread had nothing to do with harmonica, only astrology. Someone with a different religious point of view pointed out that other religious topics were off limits. I hadn't gotten to the thread yet. When I did I asked him to drop the topic. He basically said the same thing he always has. No topic is off limits if he thinks it's not off limits. I had the same issue when he posted a video of girls pole dancing. It's not that we don't all have our moments where we say something we shouldn't, it's repeatedly doing it and keeping at it even when it's causing problems.

Religious music is not off limits. I've been enjoying the Xmas music threads popping up, even although I'm not religious myself, and I love Bach.

Hvyj, mindless drivel is always good in moderation, after all, we have to bond over something and it can be a good distraction when things get heated.

I like religious music... I'm a practicing Roman Catholic, Pro-Life Libertarian, harp player, SPAH member, gun owner (actually many firearms and airguns), and NRA member, and I don't really care what anyone else is... just don't get in my way or obstruct my freedoms.

I really like the music we sing in church... I look at the sheet music to figure out what key it's in (Circle of 5ths !).

You hear a "familiar song" that sounds like "Star of the County Down" (Howard plays this with Bela Fleck), but the song is "Canticle of the Turning". Just an example.

Ninja, I thought the Karma thread was about why some religion was being discussed while others weren't. My guess is Adam, travelling in Europe, dropped in and stomped on the fire and went back (rightly) to (hopefully) enjoying Europe. It seems to be dropping down the charts anyway. If we can all agree to pretend it's locked we can just let die. In the interest of transparency I don't want to delete it since it seems to be dropping anyway. I could put the little lock banner on it, but that would mean finding the lock banner and adding it as a post (which would make it pop back up to the top again and really only locks the thread in theory.)

Airmojo, I am none of those things, but since we agree on the Circle of Fifths I still think we can be friends. :)

@HarpNinja: Multiple choice answer to your question: A) arbitrariness B) double standard C) hypocrisy D) all of the above.

I was speculating that it may have been because the karma thread was interesting and the astrology thread was trivial, boring, and tedious. But after thinking about it, I decided that couldn't be true since boring, tedious triviality has never gotten anyone sanctioned around here.

Diggs - I suspect it is a case of being 'under the radar'. The profile of any Bach mass would seem to be fairly low on this forum. If however everyone went crazy and virtual fights started all over the place, then who knows what could happen! Everyone barred?

Airmojo - I guess alot of traditional folk tunes are very similar to church music. Makes you wonder which one copied the other!

"I suspect it is a case of being 'under the radar'." Is that the politically correct term for selective enforcement?

It is what it is: Industrial strength bullshit by any other name....

I agree with the decision. I'll keep visiting the forum.

hvyj - I would have thought 'selective enforcement' was the politally correct phrase - 'under the radar' implies something much more subversive!

In any case, it is more a case of being self-selective (ie the members on the forum do the selecting by the tone of the posts within a thread). You could probably post anything if no member responds. It is when the insults start to fly that the trouble starts.

My point to Diggs is that I can't see a post about a Bach Mass causing melt-down on this forum, with people taking sides and so on.

Let's not be too miserable and accusing about past mistakes made and peoples quirks - there has been enough bad news today to last to END of 2012 and beyond.
