Just started playing around with this old traditional folk song and wondered whether I could do it in 2nd position blues style. Not a complicated song but surprisingly difficult to get the pitch bends accurate on holes 2 & 3 and also breath control at this slow pace.
Thought it would make a good practice piece, what do you think?
I like this.- Well done. Yeah - a good one to practice those partial bends on. My buddy & bandmate coincidenttally just posted a finger picking guitar version yesterday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aru8kXwaJbo ----------
Well done. A great exercise would be to keep practicing another couple of weeks and video again. You've got the tune, can you get so comfortable with it that more and more music shows up? Michael Rubin Michaelrubinharmonica.com
I definitely did not mean to imply that there wasn't music there. I am saying that when I work on tough tunes, I work on them for extended periods of time and they change! That was not intended to be a backhanded compliment. APologies. Michael
It sounded good as is, but as Michael mentioned (I've just watched 17 of his videos and can't imagine him being rude!!) with work you can get into the tune more and not focus on the bends. You have a great knack of easing to the correct pitch during the video so any slightly off note isn't the focus anyway.
When I first came across this forum someone had posted a very good version of love story and that is a great piece for practicing the low octave bends.
@ Nacoran @ Michael Rubin @ tmf714 @ Shoulders. Thanks guys.I didn't take any offense btw. I just videoed it after a couple of practice runs and was using it as an excercise in pitch control rather than a performance piece. And I can tell you I was concentrating mighty hard on trying to get the pitch of the bends as as best I could.
I also found those low bends for me at least, take a lot of air at the slow tempo which can add tension to playing and this may have affected the musicality to a degree. I will continue to use it as an excercise though because it can only help develop greater control.
