I figure I need one so which delay is very good and reasonably priced? I've tried a few years ago and didn't like them better than plugging straight in. The only effect I ever use (occaisionally) is an old brown reverb unit. Thanks

DD3 clean, non coloured sound, DD2 clean but warmer than DD2. Lone Wolf 1 colours and warms the sound more. Lone Wolf 2,less dark than the 1, but I haven't played through it, so can't comment. DM2 or 3 are analogue, not made any more and quite expensive second hand. They are more dark and warm than the digi ones above.
I prefer a cleaner pedal as it replicates what you put in. But some like the darker, more coloured pedals.
Depends what you want really.
Go to a local guitar shop and try out some of the pedals there.

Artec Analog Delay. Strong metal chassis, three simple knobs to adjust the tone, price only 45 euros. Highly recommended. You can here how it sounds live from the youtube link below (with Marble Max amp).

Is anyone familiar with the sound of the Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo pedal?

I have the Lone Wolfe Harp Delay and like it...to be honest, I didn't try tons of other delays. I hear good things about the DanElectro, and they are quite inexpensive.

I recently sold my Lone Wolf Delay and bought a 1980's DOD FX90 analog delay. It's a totally different animal and I feel like I've never sounded so good. I've also got a DOD FX96, which is actually better constructed and uses a very similar circuit. Let me know if you're interested... ----------

Hondo,
ibanez makes very sweet delay pedals and has been incredibly consistent in turning out good pedals from the get-go.

I currently own a Lone Wolf Harp Delay. I like it, but rarely use it. I like to plug straight the mic straight into the amp.
I had a DanEcho pedal and didn't like it.

Thank you MP for the feedback. I bought it cheap as he** and have never used anything different. So, it's good to know what I have.

-Hondo, no problem. ibanez delays- whether they are old new analog or digital- are very good units. at vintage guitar shows there is often an ibanez booth with tons of old analog delays for sale. this is because people like 'em.

I have the DE7 lIbanez and never got it dialed in to where I 'got off on it'. My guitar player buddy plugged into it and sounded really good however.
I may be up for selling it if anyone is interested.
I use the delay built into the Yamaha Magic Stomp II, which is not a simple delay unit but a digital fx unit similar to a line 6 pod or what have you. ----------

Here comes the subjectivity: The only delay I have consistently been won over relative to its warmth and simplicity is the Maxon AD-900 (now replaced by the even pricier, e.g., 350.00+) AD-999. This is an analog pedal that I had sold (they have great resale value because of the quality and rep) and bought again (no longer made) used last week after trying and selling the two-timer. I've tried the old Boss DM, the T Rex replica, the original Lone Wolf, Dennis Gruenling's Boss reverb, and others only to come back to the Maxon AD-900. You buy, sell, buy, and learn. The other factor i have found quintessential to a good fit is the amp to pedal marriage; just like certain mikes fit some amps better than others I believe certain pedals fit some amps better than other. I only have vintage Premiers and Magnatones now and the Maxon serves these amps well IMO whereas I believe newer models: A 2 (aka the "Soulful") 10'' and 4 10'' HK and a mini Meteor are the ones I have had in the past might be easier to match a pedal to. In other words my POG fit these later amps better than my late 50s- early 60s amps. Anyway: blah, blah, blah: I really dig my Maxon and am glad we've reconciled. My best. d ---------- myspace facebook

@Jim: Yeah, personally,if I'm playing through an amp that has reverb, I don't use a delay.
But if the amp has no reverb, I'll use a delay pedal. I don't like to play dry.
The MXR Carbon Copy has a dark tone and compresses the highs a little. I like it. It's supposed to be true bypass, but it's not. If you leave it on all the time (which is what I do) there's no problem. But if you turn it off you may get a drop in volume unless there's a non true bypass or buffered pedal in front of it (like, for example, a Micro POG).
I agree w/bigd. Certain pedals sound better with certain amps. It's a trial and error thing.
