I'm getting better at harp but I seriously lack a good harp amp for practice (and maybe a small club gig in the future?). I'm an electronics tech and thought it would be a fun project to build such an amp.
I've seen demos of the model 50 and the Twin 8. I really like what I've heard. It would be a pretty straight forward build for me.
My question is the tone control on those amps. Do you find it useful? Or would you rather have a Fender tweed tone control like the kind you find on a tweed Princeton or a tweed Deluxe?
I've not seen much by way of demos for the stock tone control and wondered if it might be better to put a Fender tweed tone control in it instead?
TIA

I have a Premier 50 & a Premier 120 for sale. The Premier 120 has anti feedback circuitry so you can have the volume up full & the tone control half way or further with no feedback. on the Premier 50 I have to keep the tone down to about quarter the way up depending on the mic. both amps sound perfect for Harp - fat & raspy like my ex Mrs

It sounds like the treble is too biting and you need to ride the bass side more?

i played a twin 8 Premier for several years. it's a DAMN fine small amp!!!!
i've found the tone control to be very flexible. i would keep it more to the bass side but sometimes i would add real dirty midrange punch by going slightly in the other direction.
try it stock first. i don't think this amp needs improvements. ---------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus

You might also take a look around the Lone Wolf harp amp forum. Folks there have done a lot of tweaking and DIY building. (though some ,like Todd) are here too) http://www.lwharpamps.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2&sid=d3f36550dfbbf61961ab2ef0a89a1486 ----------

@Learning Harp yes the tone control on my 50 is definitely useful but you have to keep it down I normally have it quarter the way up . with the Premier 120 you can can turn the tone up or down with the volume up . it has anti feedback circuitry built in.
I would of thought with the Fender amps been guitar amplifiers you would of had to keep both the tone & volume down unless they have a HIZ microphone input

Bone, I'll check out that forum thanks!
MP, I'll check it out. I'm going to set up the circuit board so that I can test it.
Straw, I have a Low-Z to Hi-Z box I built that I put a really nice transformer in. It's pretty much anything you put in it comes out sounding like it did going in. But on the Fender question I was just wondering about the tone control. The Fender tweed control is pretty wide range, the 50/twin 8 looks like it might not be on paper? But it sounds like it is in practice.
Thanks for all your help guys!
