Hey folks. I've lurked for awhile and have learned a wee bit, I think. I'm an acoustic guitar blues wannabe that flows over to mandolin on occasion. I have always loved the harmonica since my high school days when I heard Wil Scarlet on the first Hot Tuna album when it came out. (Dating myself, I guess. 56 years old.)
I have a bit of spare change and have decided to learn a little of the harp world instead of buying another guitar. I don't have any desire to be the best--hell, at 56 years I am a generation too late to be the best at anything!!! However, I intend to have fun.
So.......here's what I've done.
I downloaded all of the videos that Adam has in the "quick start" section.
I bought a Bushman Delta Frost in A and in C.
I didn't' know how to tell which would be my favorite harp. I could either buy a bunch of harps all in the same key (probably the "scientific way") or different keys to get different harps and spread the funds further. I bought an 1847 in Bb, a Manji in F and a Hammond in D. You can tell I'm a bit of a techo geekoid----I realize that and completely blame my lack of skills on the fact that I spend too much time on a keyboard instead of a fretboard.
Wow, how long winded can one idiot get??? I haven't even got an instrument in the mailbox yet and it's been fun!!
The point???
I guess, anybody got anything else I can do besides PRACTICE???

(hummmmmm....? Stuff to do besides practicing? Tempting, Mando, tempting! Do you cook? :)
Hey though, welcome to the mad house. You just need a G harp and you will be set for doing just about anything that comes along, unless you go all jazzy on us. Check my MBH webbrain below to explore all the rest of Adam's vids. (Just updated the recent side-to-side and Brandon vids last night.)

Welcome to the forum mandowhacker.
Your note "I haven't even got an instrument in the mailbox yet and it's been fun!!" reminded me of a post that was on here a while back.
There was a young chap (can't remember where he was but it was a poor contry) and he was mad about harp but could not afford one.
He said he was practicing drawing and blowing rhythms on a small piece of wood so that he'd know what to do when he eventually could afford one. Ah! Wish I could find that post.
I'm pleased the moose has shortened your name to mando. ----------

Welcome! Does mandolin mean you're into bluegrass? What kind of music do you want to learn harp for? I don't know which of Adam's lessons you have, but some of them use a Bb harp.

Thanks for the welcome and all the advice.
I'm a truck driver who uses a Sprint wireless modem. Sometimes I don't have a signal, sometimes I work all night and at home Cheryl has far too much for me to do to get online. Hence, the several days between the posts.
I don't care at all for bluegrass music. I attempt to play blues and old timey folk mandolin and guitar. Acoustic blues is about all I care for on guitar.
I can't believe I overlooked a G harp. I'll have to get one on the way after another carton or two of unsmoked cigarettes. That's where the spare change comes from---I quit smoking five months ago and save about $45 a week by not buying cigs. I've been rewarding myself with fun stuff--like harps. After awhile the savings will have to go to real life stuff like bills and house repairs, but for now I'm getting a few of the things I've always wanted but never quite had the money for.
