In so far as sealing a MB comb, I had an idea; or a huge brain fart maybe. When you polish wood with a buffing wheel it polishes the wood almost glasslike. What would happen if you were to carefully do this to a MB comb? I was thinking just around the ends of the tines and inside. Sort of like sealing and polishing all at once. Waste of time?

I think one of the customizers does that but I don't want to put words in his mouth. You certainly can do it after sealing, although depending on whether the sealant is an absorbed or surface finish you have to make sure not to buff it off. I was wondering about burning wood. I know they used to make canoes by burning the inside of a log and then chiseling out the inside. I don't know if that sealed it.

Once you've got the inside and tips of the tines done that seems like hard part. The top and bottom probably get some moisture, so you could do those too. And once you've gone that far, you might as well polish the rest to make it look pretty.
Let me know how it turns out. I've got a walking stick I need to make weatherproof. :)

Nacoran: In another thread you mentioned burnished. Like in high speed buffing; that's what I had in mind. I slobber like a hound dog on the trail of a T-bone steak anyway. Certainly can't make it worse.

That's a great idea. There problem is to get it perfectly flat. I'd guess that the wood gives in differently at different places and that would warble the previously flat surface...
