I know Sonny Terry and Deford are loved. But does anybody here whoop in their playing,,, or has it gone away as being too hick or what .
In stuff Im learning,,it has whoops and I want to put them in , some whoops when playing this kinda stuff,, come out without planning them, you just whoop, yip or bark. without consiously planning to.

any whoopers here, If you got a vid , point me to it

Hey Steve

I do a bit of whooping when chugging some but sparingly and I dont do any or the yips or barks

a) because I dont have the falsetto voice to pull it off

but most importantly

b) I suck at it.

I was doing some whooping today actually at a Students funeral today in order to liven things up (as you do)

I do it in one of my songs, but it's not quite the through the harp, between the beats stuff from a fox chase, it's more of a flat out replacement of a line that I would otherwise be playing a response on on harp.

Warning, please turn the bass up when you listen to this , as it gets a bit shrill. Also, I apologize for the Harmonica Guru title, I think it meant to read World Class Harmonica Player. Whoop whoop.Nyuk Nyuk nyuk.

Check out Rory Mcleod's playing, he will falsetto sing a note or two in a descending run which is very effective. Also Freeman Stowers would sound the same note as well as playing it, this is only possible on blow notes, he usually did it as a train whistle on the six blow, same principle as the harp boxers.

I saw DevonTom do this live in Memphis. FANTASTIC. Plus, he had a REALLY good keyboard player, too ;)

Not I.

a) Whooping only works in limited types of music in small doses.

b) I sing bass. If I whoop, I sound like a walrus with laryngitis.

Andrew, my walrus friend, did you check out that Philip Henry video Oxharp posted? He is utilizing the whooping and blow tonic harp boxing much better than I explained in my previous explanation. He seems pretty limitless, what do you think? Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Devon Tom, that's some dangerous shit. Nice.
Plus, it's good to see someone play wrong handed like me.
