Ok guys, I dont know if any of you are around the Catskill/Albany,NY area. But if any of you are,Im looking to start up a Harp club/group. Or perhaps you know someone around that area that may be interested in such a thing. If so,please have them email me. There seems to be nothing of the sort around here & I think it'd be a lot of fun.
Thanks guys, Jimmy

Jimmy,
I don't know of any harp clubs in the capital district. However, there is a blues jam on Sundays at the Fuller Road House in Albany (I've never been but I know a harp player who has attended). There used to be an active blues club (Northeast Blues Society) but I believe they are no longer active.

I'd be interested. My car is always a question mark. It's older (seriously) than several members of the forum.

Hey Jimmy,
I'm from Syracuse and would be interested in some sort of upstate harmonica club, although, like Pharpo,I think weekly get togethers are out of the question. If there were enough western, central, and capital region players interested perhaps a pro player could be cajoled into comming for a clinic or something. We could at least keep each other posted on "local" events (ie. Charlie Musslewhite was here this past summer, James Cotton came to the Egg last winter, maybe there will be a NYS blues festival this year? etc.) Kim W. and Dennis G. have both played at this downtown festival in past years so its usually a good one.

No, but I've thought about going down to Rooters on South Salina on Sunday nights (If its still happening?) More to just get a feel for what its like. I've been learning to play now for a couple years, but I'm not sure I possess the repotiore or skill set to hold my own at an open yet. Wife, kids, mortgage, minivan and work schedule keep my practice regimen pretty short these days but I usually find the time to keep plugging away. Can you suggest any good ones aroung the city, I'd like to meet other harp players and get a feel for what the local open jams are like.

Iv'e been to Rooters a few times...I prefer to go the Johnny Rage's open mic at the Bridge St. Tavern. When I started to go there I was just getting back into playing (after putting the harps down for 17 years) I found the group there very friendly and supportive. Playing live has been a big factor in my improvement ( I believe)
