After a long time my wife and I found the courage to record another song.
This time a gospel/folk/roots song by Gillian Welch:

Blues harp solo from 2:50-3:50 on a Seydel Silver+ F-harp in 5th position (song in A-min.).
I would love to hear constructive criticism from the real players here.. :-)

I can't offer any constructive criticism SwampBluesTed but I must say that you and your wife make a very good sound together and the harp was very good too. I thoroughly enjoyed your playing and singing. Thankyou very much. Made my evening.

You have both great matching voices.
Concerning your harp playing, the word that comes to mind is : tasteful. It's well done, with a good tone, and fits perfectly. The only thing is that it ends a little abruptly. But that's only the last fraction of second, and that maybe me wanting to hear more.
The a capella final is fantastic.

SBT,
Very nice thanks, lovely vocals between you.

Perhaps (if I may) you could have come back in with harp at the end for a couple of bars just to finish it off, because we wanted more..
Maybe switch to an a minor tuning for the second solo for contrast.

Oh and smile Ted!

all the best Nick

OK in general. Guitar sometimes lost groove, try to practice with metronome. Harmonica sounds cool, but need more articulation instead of pre-bending.

the harmonies are solid -- I agree with Boris that the guitar's tempo wavers sometimes, and as a result, the singing sometimes gets a little bit misaligned with the general pulse of the music. The singing is very precise, whereas the guitar is more freeform. I don't think the melody is intricate enough to allow for that kind of contrast...if the chords had been fingerpicked, it would'veworked better. I really liked the vocals and the harp...I can't say much about intonations, but I really liked the soulful bends, I could hear you getting into them, which, to me, is half the battle.

Cheers!

Thank you ALL for your comments! It is really appreciated.

@harmonicanick: I thought about playing harp a few bars at end, but in that case we would lose the a capella ending. Besides that the song was already over 5 min. so we thought it may be too long.

@boris_plotnikov: I play everthing tongue-blocked (always) and you're right that my articulation is sporadic. Thanks for this advise, I should work on that!

And about the guitar playing groove, I shall punish my wife for that! ;)

During the practice hours I also recorded this short improvisation to this same song:

That was excellent, this is the stuff that inspires me. I am learning to play harp and my wife is learning guitar.
