did anyone ever play that thing? and as it is roundabout twice as costly as the harps I usually can afford, is it worth the money?

I have one in C that I like very much.
I like it better than the deluxe I just got.

In my opinion on of the best 'out of the box' harps.
It's the Marineband 2.0 upgrade !

They're great. I have two, A and G. Easy to bend and they're loud. I also find it more comfortable than my regular marine band.

I have 1 in the key of D a great harp but overpriced a comparison would be the suzuki manji with a wood comb but a better value at about 15.00 less than the crossover

I have also been wondering if the Crossover is worth the extra money.

Of particular interest is the wood comb - will this ever need re-sealing? Hohner suggest the comb won't swell, so is this confidence due to the laminate bamboo or the sealing process? Any thoughts welcome.

@diletto - when you try the Crossover, please update this thread with your impressions.

crossover combs are completely, solidly sealed. no moisture is ever going to get into the comb.

I have one Crossover, I think it's good, but not amazing. I paid $62 for it, in hindsight for the money I would rather have picked up a couple of Marine Bands.

To me, nothing snarls and bites like a Marine Band, but I continue to buy various brands of new harps, just to see.

I have to say you guys seem to be giving high points for the crossover. This is not the only place (or people) Ive heard say how good the crossover is. Makes me almost wanna go out and buy one today. But alass,I love my Marine Band 1896/20 (not deluxe) And Im gonna stick with them... For now ;)

Attended the workshop in Trossingen, Germany last week (5-7 Nov). Steve Baker, David Barrett, Joe Filisko and Eric Noden. Joe was playing the Crossover for the most part and gave high marks overall (out of the box). At the workshop I bought a C, G, F and Bb ...the A sold out quickly. In fact, I went to the only music store in Trossingen and they where out also ... Hohner had sent most of their A Crossover stock to the states and are making more as I type. They sound and feel great. BTW...they sold for 50€ each during the workshop (approx $10 cheaper).qjrn6f

@AV8R It probably needs to be gapped for your playing.
@Jagrowler The laminating is glueing strips of bamboo together. The glue will not absorb moisture and the glue will hold the wood pretty striaght compared to pear wood. Then they spray it with something that repells moisture. So they would never swell, but they do sound different than stock MB's.
@xpun3414 Marine Bands are a addictive! Its not just playing the harp. Its different. Some people don't get it and thats fine, but when you do. Its fun!
@jeff I work on harps and have been playing every day for over 24 years. Joe Filisko never plays a out of the box harp. The best manufactured harp can always use a little tweaking and some of the Crossovers I've seen needed alot of tweaking!

Note: 50 euros would be $66 US.

Update--I sent my Crossover to Chromaticblues for a workover when he was having his Midnight Special deal going on--Jeeez is it sweet!
It is so damn responsive now I feel like I almost have to back off so as not to hurt it! Guess now I'll have to start playing softly like BBQ Bob tells us we ought to anyway.
Chromaticblues brought two other harps back from the dead for me-he does amazing work, no lie.

I am a bloozharp novice and maybe a bit
sensitive to harp response. I have 3 Crossover harps and 3 Marine Band Deluxe models I use regularly.
I also have numerous Hohner
Blues Harps and some Lee Oskars too.

I much prefer my 'MB Deluxe 'A' over the equivalent 'Crossover' version.
I just love the 'Crossover' in 'G' though!!!
My 'Big River' is not nearly as responsive.

I would definately buy 'MB Deluxe' over 'Crossover'.

@Woody Your Crossover might just need to be gapped. Some times the reeds are to curled up also. Its something like that. On the average the Crossover is the better harp.

I just finnished a MBD in "D" and Crossovers in "C"and "A". The MBD came out good, but the Crossovers so good! In the past I have said the Manji was a close second. I believe I have changed my mind on that. The Crossovers I'm building now are so much better than anything else I work on. They really are GREAT HARPS!
