I've just approved ten applications for membership to this forum. They've all accumulated in the past three days. Welcome to our new members! Please read the forum creed; it has evolved over the past several years, in part as a response to challenges that we've faced as a community. We seem to be doing pretty well these days, but of course blues is as blues does and one never knows how long such Golden Ages will last.

If you've got a particular interest, please put it into the forum search engine--it's on the page after the forum--and see if we've dialogued about it. This doesn't mean you can't ask the same question again, but it does mean that if you're truly interested in a subject, you'll find a rich archive in our past discussions. (You'll also sometimes find bad behavior, but I urge you to ignore that.)

A forum like this depends for its vitality just as much on the fresh perspectives offered by new members as it depends on the stabilizing influence and institutional wisdom reflected by its long-timers. (We're sorta like a prison in that respect--except you get to leave whenever you want, if you want.)

Again, welcome to the forum. We're glad you're here.

Check out the 'forum archive' link as well (good stuff GermanHarpist). Find nacoran's thread-thread organizer page link at the bottom of his latest signature.
To really blow your mind try my MBH Webbrain to index into all of Adam's youtube vids by topic, harp key of song. (Or use FerretCat to find Jason Ricci's lessons by hair color! :)
Todd? Could you pass the conditioner please?

"to new members-if you post your harp playing talent on this forum please have thick skin the people critiqing are very honest and will not tell you are good if you are not"

I posted a dubstep-blues fusion piece a few days back and got some very interesting critiques, though I wouldn't mind some more comments on the technical problems with my playing as opposed to comments about composition/songwriting decisions -- which are equally appreciated.

The thread is here:
http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/769705.htm

I've been browsing through the forum and there are loads of talented players here -- I'll be taking this opportunity to learn as much as possible.

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome!

Lot of great info and people here.

I'll try and post some of my playing eventually.
Not new to harp, but relatively new to blues harp.
I've played for years, mostly folk, some blues, but my interest in blues harp has grown recently. You know, I'm a converted guitar player!

Thanks for the welcome, and I'm glad to be aboard!

Keeping up with the volume of current posts is daunting, but I hope to be checking in regularly, as well as mining the archives for subjects of interest.

I've already received scads of valuable information on the issues I've posted concerning the B-radical, and about chromatic harmonica playing, and am grateful.

Thanks players!

Soon as I figure out the technology, I'll be looking forward to posting some playing samples for feedback.

I currently play in several local bands, more for fun than money, but there is a level of professionalism I hold myself to.

But it is difficult, at a certain point, to get beyond your technical limits. I'm hoping the forum can boost me off my little plateau.

Take care.

Between Adam's free YT vids, his on-line store and the collective wisdom of all the fine players that populate this forum, it's all out there. I'm convinced of that.

The only thing stopping anybody from becoming a resonably good harp player is the dedication to practice. I, for one, am woefully deficient on that score. But really, it is all out there..IMHO.

Anyway welcome aboard.

Oh and regarding keeping up with the volume of current posts..my unsolicited advice....don't worry too much about that...it's all there in the archive for future reference. And if you can't find it, just ask and someone, usually one of the great mods we have (yes Nate, that means you), will find it and post a link.

But above all...have fun.

your post and my post have vastly different flavor.
or do you really not see that?
it's no wonder threads get out of hand and locked around here.

Memo to eHarp and Honkin: You are BOTH on notice. You are both sending precisely the wrong message to newbies. Next time I won't warn. Take your dysfunction elsewhere, please. We can't use it here.

Howdy Y'all!

I'm usually running through a couple of different harp forums a day; even more on the weekends.

Found this one from a jump link at harpsurgery.com. Back then though this place was closed to new members - but I still kept it on the back burner of my faves list.

Later, it was open again. Was grateful for the acceptance; and while I only drop by to see what's news, still am glad to be part of your little neighborhood community in the vast and mighty Harmonica Universe!

Smiles!

Keep On Harpin'!

Peace & SPD Out & About!

i want to apologize for any offense i may have unintentionally given to honkin on bobo for my post where i quoted from his post about practice.

i was not trying to do anything but poke fun at myself (and maybe others who could be in the same boat) for not being a better harp player considering all the years i have been "playing". and the very main reason is BECAUSE I DONT PRACTICE!

i regret that my post caused this sort of rift on the forum; especially on a thread welcoming newcomers.

4 blues scales, ascending and descending by triplets, some octave shifts through the changes and a run at juke and you are forgiven my son.

I totally misunderstood what you were saying eharp, my apologies to you. I think I've been spending way too much time reading these threads instead of trying to get better at playing blues harp.

In my case, kudzurunner is 100% correct, I need to take my dysfunction elsewhere.

I'm happy that my getting royally pissed off has had a salutary effect.

I realize it's not apparent to some long-timers, but a thread titled "welcome to new members" is a place in which we're supposed to make nice to each other as well as the newbies. Otherwise we risk appearing like some sort of Charles Addams cartoon. That was the thing about The Addams Family: to each other, they seemed completely normal. To outsiders, they were incomparably bizarre. I would be the first to acknowledge that blues harmonica players, as a group, are not celebrated for being normal--and the loud shirts and shoes, BTW, are a part of this. Still, we COULD work a little harder to fool the innocents, at least in this thread.

Welcome new members!

As a beginner, this forum has helped me find great equipment including how/who/where to find it, technical advise that someday I'll understand but its here and readily available when asked for, introduction to great players from all over the world, contacts for available lessons from some of the best players, info on harp events and players everywhere, links to great harp vids, and incredible stories of playing harp.

It is also a place to post your own playing and get constructive comments. Play it, record it, post it, learn from it. Learn from everyone here...

Also try to go in and read all the posts even if the topic doesn't catch your attention, it can go somewhere you might learn something from.

Lastly, be humble! Alot of these members share an enormous amount of fun and very useful info that comes in many different forms.

Its all here so enjoy the discussions...and play your harp alot!

Aloha

Im a new guy I know ,,, but I "know" Eharp a little,,, and he was only making a joke ,,, Im not trying to " Honk" on you Bobo,, I think it may have just hit you wrong, Eharp is a good guy.
My words have been taken so different from what I meant I sympathize with E. just saying I dont think he meant ANY harm.

" Oh Lord , please dont let me be misunderstood" probably applies here ;)

Adam - you make reference to 'loud shirts and shoes'.

The shirts I get - I now understand you have been making a subliminal point in many of your lessons and You Tube postings. But shoes??? I'm intrigued.

Perhaps this shows how much I really have to learn!
