-just stumbled across what i think are great resources for tuning. one is the Harmonica Einstein tool/chart and the other is a free online tuning app.

the Einstein slips into the holes of your harp and supports the reeds for tuning so you have an extra hand freed-up. at $19.50, the price is right also.

if you punch in tuningtable.com

it takes you to the Einstein site. they make two models. one for MB type harps and one for SP20/GM type harps that have sprues in the slots of the combs.

if you go to INSTRUCTIONS there is a link to the right for the free computer tuning app.

i thought it was cool!.--------

Interesting MP I hadn't thought about sticking something in the hole to support the reeds. I'm going to see if I can find a piece of square stock metal that will fit in a MB hole.

That is kind of a neat thing.

I use wooden shish kebab skewers and carve the end flat and just stick it in the same way. They are about half the thickness of the plastic thing on the Einstein, It does the same thing on my Sp20s cause it wedges between the spur in the slot and the back of the reed plate. I keep a few in my kit and if I loose a few it no big deal, I got a drawer full.

Once I wedge it in it puts no pressure on the reed but sits just behind it and it frees up both my hands and best of all no taking off the reed plates.

Thanks for posting it.

i think it would be easy to make. the material looks like the plastic some chopping boards are made of.

the only problem i can think of is that you can't use a file to tune the blow reeds.

@jason, i figuered someone used a method similar to this one.

@boris,
i like to disasemble the harmonica too, because sometimes i like to use a sanding wand. but..for a quick fine tuning, the EINSTEIN looks like a reasonable alternative.----------
