OK You may think I'm being presumptious but here is the scenario.

You've created a piece of music which you feel is great. You think that people would buy your music if it was available to download. You've made a good quality mp3.

What do you do next?

Submit it to CD Baby or Reverb Nation, which will get it on iTunes, Amazon, etc. Then find a way to advertise!

Yeap, there are other hosting sites too, but those are good ones. I know there was some problems with the company that ran the sale on MySpace, but they may have that worked out. If you have a enough songs for a physical CD you can list on Amazon (there is an annual fee, I think.) Check out the internet radio stations to find out how to get in their play lists. Call radio stations to get it played (Adam had a thread a couple months ago trying to put together a list of station contact info). There are promotional gimmicks like 'Tweet for a Track' where someone posts a link to you on Twitter or Facebook and gets a free copy of your song (that works better if you have more than one song you want to sell.) I posted a thread (I think it's still on the front page) trying to get people to post links to where they can buy/download member music. Put your info on there. I'm hoping to make a whole directory of links for MBH members.

Sites like Reverb Nation have promotional tools to help out, like widgets. You could also go the more traditional route and try to get a record deal, but they are dying anyway!

Maybe I'm the bad guy... but when it comes to advertising... spam has a pretty good track record. :)
