-noticed Hetrick at www.harpcase.com has wood combs for a variety of plastic combed harps including SP20s, GMs big rivers, lee oskars, delta frosts, etc.
the woods available are maple, cherry, bocote, purple heart, mahogany, and a couple of others.-
they are sealed by airbrushing several coats of saladbowl finish. they were sealed w/ wax but discontinued that process.
the prices range from $16 for maple to 20 something for the more exotic woods.
has anybody here tried these combs? if so, what did you think?

thanks todd, went to the topic you indicated. i was hoping for several really positive reviews, but there is only one. no matter.
i scraped some coin together an bought one maple and one lacewood(i think it is sycamore or oak) comb for two of my SP20s.
both the SP20s play very well but i was curious to see if there would be an improvement with wood-i've already opened the backs and vented the sides.. if not, they'll look sharp.
i'll definately give a review when i get them.--------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus

Look forward to the review MP. Let us know what you think.
Saw these a bit ago and with the lacewood and mahogany(?) both clearanced for $14 I figured I'd pick a couple up just to try. Just hope the reedplates on the SP20 still sit the same on these combs.
Either way, I can throw em on some older workhorse harps and make em look nice cosmetically!

MP-I didn't mean to mislead you into thinking that thread was a vertible cornucopia of reviews-it wasn't, but was the only instance I'd heard of previously of anyone's experience with those combs.
So, you've had a few days to play with them-what do you think? Are they airtight? How is the alignment with the mouthpiece of the harp compared to the plastic?

no problem todd,
i don't expect to get them till next week. i'm very curious to see how flat they are and if the SP/20 blow reeds will be slightly closer to the mouth. they won't be as close as an MB, because the MB plates the have reeds seated at the very edge of the blow plate..
as far as reviews go, Jon Gindick -or however you spell his name- likes 'em.-
