The kids are at school and I was supposed to spend the day with my wife but my wife a to go too. Before leaving she asked wath I was going to do I said "don't know, don't really have money to spend. I'll stay home and play harp." Her response was "take 40$ and go buy a harp." I can see a sigh of higher intervention when there is one because she really doesn't like harp.
So I whent shopping and bought a key of C Marine Band wanted to give an other shot at Hohner. I was really stressed about buying a Marine Band, I've read lots of negative things on them but I wanted to try one for a long time. The harp is incredibly sweet, really easy to play and almost perfect ootb.

The ONLY thing that turns me off about the MB is the pins that hold the covers on. I know they make a higher priced version of the MB with screws but I really think right now if I were to get into something similar it'd be the Blues Harp, it looks like a pretty decent wooden comb harp. If it's anything like my Deuce then it'd be a winner. Congrats on the new harp, sounds like you got a good one. ;)

Hmmm...I smell a rat. If my wife gives me permission to run out and buy something, it either means she's already bought herself something, or is about to.
'Good' OOTB MBs do exist, according to those who like them in their rawest form. I don't, unless they at least have the combs sealed. Congrats on getting a new harp, though! I'll hopefully have 2 new Manjis on Wednesday. ----------

If you do want to seal the comb Dave Payne has a pretty good vid on YouTube. That Butcher's Block Oil is EXPENSIVE though. My wife picked up a pint of it at Lowes, $14 bucks. Guess a pint will do quite a few harps though.

Thanks guys. Frank I was affraid of buying one because of the nails and the combs but lots of people play it ootb and the nails don't bother them. If I have to open it Adan shows how to in one of is first vids. The unsealed comd doesn't scare me I'm a fairly dry player.

I agree, sometimes you just have to get what you want to get and give it a try. I stayed away from wooden combs for my first few harps because of all the 'bad press' that they get but after getting my Deuce I'm really lovin' the sound even though many say it doesn't make a difference. Just for my own peace of mind though I did seal it, not sure if it'll matter or not but I'm sure it won't hurt anything. You could probably get some very small machine screws and nuts and drill thru and use em' to secure the covers instead of the nails that there now. Should be a pretty easy mod to do. My Golden Melody even has nails holding the reed plates on, I didn't mess with those but I did find 4 really small screws to use for the covers so it'd be easier to take em' off for cleaning and stuff. Anyway, post a vid of you playing your new harp if you get a chance. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. I'd love to hear it.

Todd I've been playing a Manji in A for a few months I really like it. The wife feels guilty because, I'm off on monday and tuesday, she was really busy yesterday and not gonna be home today. ---------- Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent. Isaac Asimov
