I've been spending time recently checking out the work of Lynwood Slim. Fine West Coast blues player, but exceptional singer. He really swings, without forcing it, and he has a keen sense of exactly where to place his voice to as to hit the sweet spot. He has what I'd describe as a sort of honeyed tone, very much like Sugar Ray Norcia. Check out the first song on his MySpace page:

I'm always on the lookout for singers who make me want to copy them--i.e., sing along with their tracks. Sugar Ray and Lynwood Slim both fall into this category, as does our forum-friend Greg Heumann.
Finally, someone in my neck of the woods! I know so many people who are trying to introduce me to Tad, and I can never seem to be in the same place at the same time.
Lynnwood Slim`s been around for a few years. He was originally from the West Coast and moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul area for a while, around the same time that former Muddy Waters harpman George "Mojo" Buford was part of that scene until he moved back to the West Coast. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
I forgot to mention this, Lynwood Slim is also a pretty mean flute player. I hadn't seen anyone else play Blues on the flute other than Johnny Heartsman.
Hi Joe, "Lynwood Slim is also a pretty mean flute player. I hadn't seen anyone else play Blues on the flute other than Johnny Heartsman."
One must wonder whether Butterfield ever had a go, but Matt Walklate from Manchester is a mean flute player as well as an excellent harp player & front man, I've seen him do some great bluesy stuff on the flute...though I apreciate that you probably don't get out & about around NW UK that often. ;-)
There are some awesome live videos of Lynwood Slim @ Alex Schultz (& Richard Innes) on youtube, look for postings by "harrylegends"
Cool. Thanks. I should also include the following, just because I haven't seen it, doesn't mean it has never happened. I've been around, but I can't claim to have seen everything.
If I ever make it to the NW UK, I'm looking you up.
