Been away from her for awhile. Busy playing, then my computer crashed, and was inthe middle of producing the Blowdown Hoedown 2.0 !
This time FIVE harpcats and backing Blues All-Stars. FOUR hours of fun and Blues.
During soundcheck, the git player said "Say something, Joey", so I did an a cappella rendition of "Something Got a Hold on Me" That made everyone in the already packed house sit up and take notice. Completely spontaneous.
SO, I'm the producer, but I had some fragile ego's to stroke. I end up playing the opening set. Change some songs at last minute. Start out with Jimmy Reed shuffles. Then do an absolute knockout of "Scratch My Back" and transition to "Born In Chicago".
Switched out drummers, did "Walkin' By Myself", then did a gritty slow version of "Your Funeral & My Trial", "Killin' Floor", and ended my set with "Shake Your Moneymaker".
Lots of great performances by others, including "My Babe" and "I Got to Find My Baby" by Chuck Rorabaugh; "Lonesome Bedroom Blues" by Jeff Priolo, "Wammer Jammer" by Ray Wells, and "Cold Duck Time" and "Jelly Jelly" by Kevin McCracken.
The closing BLOWDOWN was my choice, so this time I picked "Nut Popper #1" by Butterfield, and blew the house down !
Lot's of work, but Lot's o fun, too !

I've been Joey Shakes, Joe Hornblower, Jay Samson, Little Joe Samson, Howlin' Joe, Mad Joe Ran,
But this one "Joey Five & Dime" has stuck.
