Hi MBH Tech Heads can you help out?

Iv'e been useing my Spher-O-Dyne for Harp and vocals at Blues Jams and Open Mic shows, I'm not to clued in on whats going down with the stage set up yet ie, sound desk PA or as they say sound Board :/

So at jams i let the guys running the show set my Mic Up they say i will just plug strait into the desk Yeh Mate i say :)

But some Jams the guys can't set the mic up saying it is to powerful they can't turn it up enough or it feeds back
i'm trying to play it very little sound comeing out:(

But my two regular Jams the Bro's have got it down pat just plug me in give me a sound check and away i go :)

Do i need to get a spare Spher-O-dyne and rip the transformer out and convert it to low-Z,just for the Dunder Heads when they say it's feeding back i just swap mics over Problem solved :)

Or should they learn how to use there Gear, I mean i have no problem at 2 jams it's just the drop in jams where know one nows us or how to set my Mic Up, so when this Happens i just avoid the fuss and use the Normal vocal mic to get on with the Show :)

----------
Cheers Bro's :)

Sounds like they are putting you into a mic instead of a line channel. If they don't have a line channel (possible, but unusual) a DI box with switchable attenuation would solve the problem. Probably cheaper and easier than sourcing and modding a new mic.

Yup. A DI box. That's what I was thinking.

And keep it real low in the monitor mix.

The quick feedback with the Spherodyne (PE533) is because this particular dynamic mic has a omni directional pickup patter like a bullet mic, and mics with that pickup pattern tend to be hotter and feed back faster. The cardiod version of this mic is the PE585.

I'd suggest getting the sphere-o-dyne SA 533 and a DI box and all problems solved. Mine's never produced an ounce of feedback no matter what. Good luck with it!

i loved my 533 and played it through amps and PAs w/ no feedback problems. well...sometimes i'd stupidly walk too close to a main or amp speaker.

Yup, NOD - that one will do the trick just fine. You don't need anything fancier than that.

Hi NOD,
Yeah I agree with Greg thats all you need.
I have a UK version and its almost the same.
You can also run an amp as a stage monitor through the other input so you can have your mic to the pa and out the speakers and have you mic through the amp on stage to give you a monitor or a big fat wall of sound through the pa speakers and your amp.
Its also great for plugging in your harp brake/ Harp attack pedal direct to the pa and have the desk adjust your volume but you still have some control over the desk on your pedals.
Good choice let us know how it goes.
