Is it ok on the forum to announce a gig date?

Sure. You might want to bookmark the thread so if you have another gig you can bump the old one instead of posting a new thread. That helps keep the forum a little neater. If you have a website you might want to add a link to your user profile.

Please do announce it. This forum is made up of folks from all over the place, and many travel often. I for one like to know what I can do for entertainment when I'm on the road, and I look here often for just such events. We had a big harp revue this past Friday, and you'll see a thread for it. Becuase of that thread, another forum member who just so happened to be in town was able to attend(and we even got him up to jam a few times).
