rbeetsme states "I was given one of the first Delta Frost harmonicas to try out. I liked the responsive play but wasn't sure about the gritty tone, I was playing Suzuki Promasters at the time". and "John told me the phospher bronze reeds were his idea, he liked what he heard from the guitar strings".
Promasters have the phospher bronze reeds, so by your own statements, they aleady existed.
I don't want to get into anything heated, just pointing out the obvious.
I also know for certain that the reed plates are made by Suzuki in Japan and that at least of all the harps in this discussion, the Delta Frost is assembled in China. I don't know where the other Suzukis are assembled.

I called Bushman today. The gentleman answering the phone said that the owner wanted to call people with orders. He took my information and I never heard from the owner.

It seems any person who took the time to take a Suzuki and a Bushman apart, check the screw hole positions and compare the reed plates could have figured this fact out long ago, Now, the magic metal with mystical powers , I don't know. Lots of BS been going on with these harps... But with that said, they are great harps if set up properly.

From all I've read about Delta Frosts they are suppose to be pretty good harps, just like the HarpMaster(which I really like) only with the PB reeds which hold up longer. I've read that the HarpMaster is suppose to be getting PB reeds too, probably so it can use the same reed plates and reeds as the Delta Frost and BluesMaster, that'll help cut production costs for the manufacture since they'll be able to build 3 harps with the same reed plates and reeds. Weather they're made in China or not they still seem to be pretty decent harps. ---------- Suzuki HarpMaster in C Suzuki FolkMaster in D,E and F Hohner Old Standby in A Hohner Special 20 in Bb Hohner Big River in Low F,G,A,Bb,C and D

@WestVirginiaTom You started this thread. We still haven't heard from you. And I was just wondering.... Did you eventually get your order from Bushman, placed sometime in August I believe. When was your credit card charged??
@Joe_L Sorry to hear you are being jerked around by that LIAR, John Hall at Bushman. I am not surprised. Maybe you should call your credit card company and ask for a refund.

I gave up.
Like many times in the past month, I called Bushman this morning. I left a message. I was frustrated.
After thinking about it more and reading a few private messages from people in similar situations who had placed orders much earlier than me, I decided that I was done and that I ought to try to get my money back.
I called the credit card company to file a dispute. On my behalf, they attempted to call Bushman and spoke with Ryan. John Hall wasn't available. When I explained that I had called them several times and was waiting for a return phone call from John, they offered to credit my account. A few minutes later, the credit was issued.
Fifteen minutes later, John Hall called me. I told him that I had filed for a credit with the credit card company. He was apologetic and said that he could have done that for me. Given his track record of returning phone calls, I didn't think that was likely.
This was my second order. The first one was problematic, too. I eventually received that order after a couple of phone calls.
I won't be ordering from them again, nor will I purchase another Bushman product.

Here's an update. I had not planned on buying another Delta Frost. Ever.
I went to Rockin' Ron's website to buy a Manji to try out. While there, I was checking prices on Hohner MS reed plates. He had a set of reed plates for a Delta Frost for $16.50. I ordered a set in A thinking that I would just swap the plates and be good to go.
I e-mailed him. Less than 30 minutes later, he confirmed the stuff was in stock. I called him and placed an order. He's a really nice guy. This was Friday. He said he would drop the goods in the mail the same day.
Today (Monday), I received my shipment. A Manji and a brand new set of reed plates attached to a comb with a Delta Frost logo printed on it. After swapping the cover plates, I had an almost brand new harp for $16.50.
Doesn't it seem odd that replacement reed plates were attached to a comb? It's like they had been shipped from another country partially assembled.
How odd?
Anyway, Rockin' Ron has matched John Hall's price on the product, he has them in stock and he likes to send them to his customers when they pay. In other words, kicks John Hall's ass in the service department.
By the way, I never would have considered buying them, if he didn't have the stuff in stock. I'm done giving short term loans to people that don't deliver.

Ron has treated me right on quite a few harp deals, awesome customer service, really fast shipping. Unless it's just absolutely something he doesn't stock(like the Deuce and a Quarter) I simply won't buy from anyone else. Rockin' Rons truly ROCKS. :)

@Jaybird They sent me an e-mail last week (the first response to my three e-mails) stating that they had a problem, but they were able to straighten it out, and my order "should" be shipped by Friday. They gave me the option of giving me a credit on my VISA card, but I decided to wait a little longer...

I also ordered 3 sets of reeds fron RockinRon. I was going to post a picture of them, but just haven't uploaded it yet. I took covers from an old Delta frost and 2 BluesMasters. I now have 3 fine harps. I ordered an Eb,Db, and B to fill in the key gaps of my main harps.

@Joe L ---- Seeing reedplates sold together attached with a comb may be a bit unusual for diatonic, but for chromatics, that's certainly not the case. For years on the Hohner 64's before they finally smartened up and got rid of the nails/escutcheon pins holding the plates and the comb together, when you ordered a replacement set of reed plates for those, that's the way they came and Hering does the same with its chromatics as well.
Until Suzuki announced the Manji, I personally had never heard on Ron's site until I ordered on directly thru the Suzuki USA site and in an email, they informed me that my order was being referred to them, as it was the first retailer to begin selling them. I not only got an email from Ron confirming it, but also a phone call about it as well. Just before they delivered, I also got both an email as well as a call and I have no complaints about Ron at all.
If any of you are on Facebook, he's also got a page and he often announces special deals that may not be listed on his site for days or even weeks or even at all. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I ordered 2 Manjis from Ron yesterday, since I have 3 gigs this coming weekend and need some good backups for my most-used keys. I ordered with confidence, knowing I'll have them in time for my shows. People's pruchasing experiences, good or bad, speak volumes on this and other forums. I feel for the DF guy, as that's probably his bread and butter, but I don't understand how someone could get the very product he owns the copyright to, and both stock and sell them in a timely manner, when he can't. ----------

@Bob - Thanks for the info.
@Todd - I don't feel sorry for John Hall. If he had the product in stock, he should have shipped it. If he didn't have the product, he shouldn't have said that he did.

Maybe saying I 'feel for him' was the wrong way to put it. If he is truly guilty as so many have said for downright crappy business practices, I don't pity HIM, but I don't like to see what was such a great thing at one time, not to mention an American-owned harmonica business, go down the tubes...a la Harp Depot. They were awesome in the early 90s. Look at them now. ----------

I like the "One piece at a time" harps, I Bought Delta Frost reeds with combs from Rockin Ron, attached some Big River Covers on them from defunct Big Rivers (with some minor adjustments) and they worked great. They seem to be louder with the Big River covers.Rockin Rons service on orders is great , why buy anywhere else?

I spoke to John last week. He told me that Harpdepot had all of his stock and wasn't returning calls or emails. I'm preparing myself for more Delta Frosts. My favorite but I don't think they'll be around much longer.

I believe the Suzikis & Hohners they are talking about are the lower end models. Not the Bluesmaster, Promaster, Manji, Marine Band & MS Series Hohners. Correct me if I am wrong.

I've been playing for about 1.5 years and started playing Delta Frosts about 9 months ago. I like them fairly well, but some of them "ring" horribly on various bends. I ordered mine from harpdepot.com. Had very quick service.

Just read on the Bushman Forum , this was posted by John "we now are the exclusive supplier in the USA of our own Bushman Delta Harmonicas. You may find a dealer or two who still has some of our inventory on their shelves, but we will not be supplying any more Delta Frosts to any other dealers in the USA. It looks like the only place Bushmans will be sold is from John at Bushman harmonicas. Very puzzling?

some counter balance,
called bushman earlier to see if they had any in to order. john answered the phone pretty much as soon as it started ringing, recognised my voice ( ihavent called for over a year), explained they had not what i wanted in stock, delivery anticipated this week, took my details, not going to charge until they are shipped and checked my contact details were right to get in touch when they are shipped.
All the information I could have wanted and a classy guy, just my experience of course.

I just want to close this story. After a couple of pleasant conversations with John Hall, we agreed to cancel my order. My credit card was credited promptly.
I get the impression that John is an honest man. I think he has some serious supply and dealer issues that he must work out. I have no hard feelings, and I will consider buying from him in the future if he gets his situation straightened out. I hope he does.
