Hi all.

Im visiting Chicago for the first time, 3rd-10th of October. I just found out i'm missing Charlie Musselwhite by one day (he's playing at buddy guy's on the 2nd!) so i was hoping you guys could recommend some other blues venues, and good local players to check out. Any general chicago tips and hints would also be great....restaurants, bars etc

thanks!

Wasn't impressed with BLUES on Halsted. I've heard Rosa's Lounge and Kingston Mines are better.
Had a good time at Buddy Guy's. We just happened to stumble in on his birthday. Good food there as well.
Millenium Park is cool, check out the Rembrandt in the Art Institute

It's amazing in person. I was hypnotized.
If you get a nice day, rent bikes downtown and ride the lake shore path, great views.

Go to Artis's on Monday night and see Billy Branch. If you aren't going to be there on Monday, change your plans and stay on Monday night.

I've had a lot of fun at BLUES.

Stop by the Old Town School of Folk Music on Monday night and meet Joe Filisko and his crew. They usually head out for a couple beers after class.

The Chicago Reader ... Its a lacal rag that has music listings ... go to the link calle Rhythm/Blues or Blues / Gosple .. one of them ... but then you will get a list of all the blues clubs that list .... in there ..Tons of Small Clubs that have big name acts for blues ... and then all the big rooms list ...but you have to look in there a week before so you know what is coming up ... they dont list way ahead ....Artis lounge is a cool thing to do ... I was there about a month ago on a monday so i stoped at Joe Filiskos school ... and did stop at a local pub to hang for a bit more with all the Harp Students he had at his class ...But when i went to see billy branch at Artis he was in Bagdad ... the band was still there though .. and i got to sit in for 3 numbers .. and got to hang with Criss Harper .. he is from Sweden living over here ... He loves my Customs in fact he orderd 10 already .4 Before the Chicago Blues Fest then 6 last week ..He is a good player .. Saw him in the round robin show .. W/John Primer / Lurie Bell / Billy Flyn at the CBF .. Chicago is always open ... Hope you have fun ... Just played Rosa's Last week with Kilborn Alley ... it was great and Tony and the crew at Rosas are great folk ...

Buddy guys legend is nice. The new place have a killer soud system. Buddy guy signed one of my harp there.

Kingston mines, best blues in town. You should go to the jam it's always fun. I saw a blues violin from japan there. Stole the show.

You should try to see Billy Branch. You can catch him in the suburb somewhere. I dont remember the bar name.

If Scotty & the Bad Boys are playing, he's worth seeing. Scottsdale a killer harp player.
