Hi.
There was a thread a while back about these. Long story short: They are from Russia. Shipping is a bitch. The combs are fabulous. I bought them all and have four left to sell to whomever wants them.
(I only have Marine band ones, I don't have any Golden Melody like in this photo)

Ten bucks through Paypal (may be a dollar or two more if shipping to anywhere other than North America). Please click on my link below to get in contact with me via email.
Please ask any questions here.
I will include screws and nuts for you, if you want. Just let me know. I will update this post if they are sold out. Cheers!

Will a MB fit on a SP20? If it will, I'll take one.

I tried and it won't fit the SP20.
I mailed all the ones for which I got the payment.
Here are some photos of a D harp I fitted with this comb.
I removed the cover plates and drilled holes on the front ends for screws.

I used a thin knife blade to separate the reedplate from the comb. I only lifted the reedplate - I didn't pry it.

Here are the lifted nails:

I pried off the nails using a small, round wire cutter.

I just pried them off - I didn't snip them.

Here are both plates off:

Hey! The nail holes line up with the holes in the Acril Comb!
I have done this with a few older harps, and these holes did not line up for them. Newer Marine Bands must have these holes is slightly different places. Anyway, I drilled these nail holes with a #55 drill bit.

Then I tapped them with a M1.6 tap. I had to remove the Tap handle for my camera to focus properly. But you get the idea.

To make the holes on the other reed plate, I line the plate and comb up.

I taped it together and scratched little marks where I need to drill.

Here are the scratch marks. I drilled them with a 1/16 drill bit. I was off so I made the holes bigger. I was still off. I was able to file one hole to be even a little bigger. A bigger hole is fine since you are able to adjust the position and then tighten.
Do not overtighten!

Once the holes were made, I sanded the draw reedplate. The side the is in contact with the comb can be made smooth. I used 400 grit sandpaper here.
I find that every Marine Band I do this to plays much better.

Back and forth. I use gloves so that my fingers have traction. The brass dust tends to dry them off and then they slip.

After a minute, this is the result. It's not uniform yet.

Another two minutes. Almost there.

Poor photo quality, but everything is uniform. I rinsed it off under running water.

I used a 28oz hammer to flatten the coverplate backs. I am banging against a piece of 2x4.

The reedplates are put onto the Acril comb with M1.6 x 8mm screws. The coverplates are drilled and assembled with M2 x 10mm screws and nuts.

It plays really really well...

great tutorial!
A little OT, but maybe not: I will have exactly the same acrylic combs soon and will be offering something very special with them.

I just added text to the photos in my last post.
I forgot to mention that you can also use M1.6 x 12 mm screws (Instead of 8mm) and they will act like posts to prevent the coverplates from being crushed if you like.
In that case, tap two holes on the draw plate (on either side) and tap the middle hole on the blow plate.
Also, I am posting this so that if someone has a better way of doing this, please let me know. I would really appreciate it.
I sold all the combs (I maybe would have liked to keep more of them). I sold them for what they cost - I made no profit, nor did I get mine for free. I am out of pocket what everyone else paid for them. I'm happy to do it, but I don't want everyone to think I am in the business or anything... I think I got a good deal...

Hi Jim.
Thanks!
If you are going to make these combs and need someone to distribute them (in/from Canada) I'd be happy to help. I have experience...

It will be a very special harp. If you want to be among the first to try it, you're welcome. Prices will be very modest (as long as my supplies of reedplates last)... ---------- www.truechromatic.com

Yeah. Mildly used. Cost me nothing, so I can offer very moderate pricing on those. I get those reedplates from my "trade in" offer. I repair 1/3 of the harps I get. For free, keeping 2/3 of them. Some of those harps are junk (I use those for spare reeds only). Some are in good condition, I use those reedplates. ---------- www.truechromatic.com
