Here is the groovemaster:

Oh, and him with a harp player:

All I can say is "enjoy!" Mr. Purdie is an incredible drummer. That's all for now.

No arguement here about him at all. He`s in a class that includes guys like Fred Below, Al Jackson, Earl Palmer, Chick Webb, Ray Allison, Oscar Lee Bradley (he`s the drummer on a lot of T-Bone Walker`s recordings), to name a few. I remember watching an instructional video he made some years ago (not sure if it`s still in print or not) and along with a guitar instructional video called "Strictly Rhythm Guitar" by Danny Gatton made my jaw drop watching it

Bob, the second video is from his instructional tape. He's just so awesome! I agree he is in that elite class. Although, I need to note he wasn't playing WITH that harp player, the harp player was playing WITH Mr. Purdie!

MP, sounds like it was an awesome show! When was that and where?

The harp player in the video is Rob Paparozzi. Bernard Purdie played on Rob's recent CD ETRUSCAN SOUL.

Recently someone posted a much more recent video of Mr. Paparozzi, Jay Gaunt, and Mr. Purdie playing together. I'll repost the video here:

Although a cool video, those prior videos show off what the man was known for. Listen to that groove.

Zack,
honolulu. '70s.

purdie made it look like he was just playing arbitrarily. not following any plan or playing it safe. he was his own show.

he appears on tons of recordings paired w/ chuck rainey. like they're the A-TEAM.----------

MP that must have been an INCREDIBLE show! Listening to his albums he just plays anything. I'm not sure I believe he played on the Beatles first albums like he claims, though...hahaha.

With groove like that, you don't even miss the other instruments!
I could listen to Purdie do that all day long and never get tired of bobbing my head.

Scott, he made albums just like that. Sadly a lot of his work isn't on CD which is a disgrace.
