Dave Harris is a one man band and is writing a book about the history of the 1 man band. He is probably the leading authority on the subject. Here is a page with hundreds of 1 man bands listed chronologically. The 1 man band thing is definetely growing in popularity. Walter

He forgot the original one-man band, Ugg Ugg, the Caveman. He was voted the best one-man band of 13,072 B.C.! He'd run his spear tip along the ribcage of a dead caribou while stepping on a 'foot pedal' (actually just the tail of a local wolf would stick around for caribou scraps, he would already be howling along with Ugg Ugg, but stepping on his tail gently would let him know when the changes where coming.)

He made the first harmonica out of wooden reeds sandwiched between a set of clamshells.

Cool list!

pretty funny narcon! What suprised me was the names like Slim Harpo. I had no idea he was once a 1 man band. Walter

Great article about one man bands. It seems in my long life I remember a movie with a one man band, I think walter brennan played the musician, I Wonder how many one man bands are in the movies of old..

Geezer1: You are right. He had a wild 1 man band set up. If I recall correct he played banjo, harp on a hanging harp rack, wiskey bottles hung on string, and some kind of drum. The movie was Banjo On My Knee. That role was almost as good as his Judge Roy Bean in the Westerner. Walter
