Hey guys I was just wondering.......? Would any of you tinkerers out there have a spare 9hole blow reed for an 1847 (stainless of course) in the key of A lying around?? It's only six months old and I'm afraid I'm gonna have to cry a bit poor and say I can't afford new plates.Luckily I'm learning the noble art of customization, but this is one 'unexpected' job.......:~(

Paging Dave Payne to the thread... Elk River may be able to help you out, or if he can't he'll know who can.

I would try writing to SEYDEL itself in the first place!

You're right Jim, and I have e-mailed them with a sob story, but I do love my 1847 and my mind came up initially with the quickest way I could think of for getting it back on the road again-ask your mates! How has anyone else gone in procuring single reeds from Seydel? I'm sceptical it could involve a long time (although yes i'm waiting for a D B-rad!) considering I live in such a 'far flung' place.....! DownUnder :~)

I bet if you bought something small like key label set stickers, and write in the order comments "please add a replacement A5 reed for 1847" - you'll get it in the envelope with the stickers. ---------- www.truechromatic.com

Someone I've known for years works for the U.S. branch and told me all stainless reed production is committed to reedplates--even the Stateside repair shop can only get individual reeds by cannibalizing reedplates. Maybe that's a ploy to force us to buy whole plates, but Seydel has claimed all along that producing the stainless reeds is difficult. I was asking on a friend's behalf and it really put me off buying an 1847 myself.

Well blow me down with a feather!!!! Seydel have replied and are going to send me a new set of reedplates! This is an amazing result, thanks Jim for the simple idea (and obvious one) of simple communication. Looks like my first reed replacement will have to wait a bit longer.
LONG LIVE SEYDEL!!!!! :~) (you too Jim!)

Cheers to Seydel! Maybe I should have gone over my friend's head. :)
