Okay it's been a reeally long time since i posted anything.
I was looking at a website called harmonicas-direct.com. Based in uk. and i was wondering should i by a golden melody for £23 or a set of 7 blues harp ms for £37 pound. Just wanted some advice on it. Im leaning towards the set but I want your opions on it first.

Well, I think it would all come down to motives. If you're just playing for yourself, and you don't have many harps, I would go with the GM. I haven't played one myself, but I hear a lot of good things about them. I can't say the same for the blues harp. However, if you're looking to start playing w/ people or recorded music, and you don't already have those keys, I would say go for the set... just so you have those keys.
When I was starting out (a mere 11 months ago) I had a lot of musician friends that I played with from day 1. So, to be able to play with other people, I bought a set of really crappy harps, as opposed to buying one good one, just so I could play with other people.
Now I don't buy sets... and instead concentrate on single good harps.

any of those two can be crap. so...
you have a 1/2 chance to buy crap with the GM or you have a 1/7 chance to buy crap with the set.

Are you sure that's a set of the hohner harps called "blues harps"? Uk retail for a single ms blues harp is not far off the same as a single gm. Sounds either like a great deal or too good to be true. I'd ring Peter blyth and get him to clarify what the product is. There's no mention of ms on the webpage I saw and blues harp could mean anything.

Golden Melodys are great harps, although they are tuned really for playing single notes across all keys (Equal Temperment).
The blues harps may be tuned for prettier chords, especially in 1st and 2nd position. I don't know much about their quality however. ---------- Shane

For blues, I'd recommend getting Special20's in the keys of A C and D to start with. The cheap sets are not really all that good and may put you off playing if they cause you to struggle with them.

Make sure it's Blues Harps, not Blues Bands. Blues Harps are decent harps, although you may want to sand down the comb a bit. Blues Harps aren't good harps. They are best used for practicing customizing on when you're pretty sure you are going to destroy the harmonica. Golden Melodies are equal tuned, so they play melodies really well, but they are rough sounding on cords. They feel nice in the hand but they fronts are a little rough on the lips, although if you have some skill you can fix them up. A lot of people love GM's. If it weren't for the lip thing I would too. I personally like Special 20's and Lee Oskars.

I own about 65 playable harps of which about a third of them are special 20s have only tossed one I own about 6 lee oskars, never had a single one go bad if you are looking for dependability I highly recommend these 2-as far as performance I have no doubt that the custom harps are superior but do not fit everyones budget
