-pulled an original meisterclasse 580 (pre MS) out of the drawer it's lived in for two decades and adjusted the gaps- kind of heavy handed, i'll admit, and now it's out of tune.
don't know how these were tuned.
are they 442? are the ET or compromise? anyone know?--------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus

Hohner never tuned any of their harps to true A440 for about 100 years and they've pretty much been tuned to A442 or A443 for over a century. The pre-MS Meisterklasses have never been tuned to ET and more likely would be either 7LJI or 19LJI (1985-1992), but Hohner never used compromise tunings until 1992 for any of their harps. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

thanks bob,
i was hoping you'd chime in.
i got this harp somewhere between '87 -'91 so that points to 19LJI.
guess i'll go with that.
PS. it's not the greatest sounding harp i've ever played. ---------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus

tune it any way you wish. The one that I had was tuned +44cents overall :D And that's deviation from 441, not 440 :D
I think that was Hohner's best post-war model quality-wise. It was made with care and love that we don't see in today's models. ---------- www.truechromatic.com

The reed metal that was used on that was made of beryllium copper alloy, which was also used on the Silver Concerto chromatic and the early versions of the Super 64X chromatic, which gave it an extremely bright sound. HOwever, since being in the MS series, they have never used this metal on the MS Meisterklasse at all. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

yes bob, the MS meisterklasse is a very different harmonica.
anyway, i tuned it to 442 19LJI. i didn't like the 5 and 9 draw so sharp(3+) so i flatted them to -12 like the 3 draw. now it sounds good.
i noticed the copper alloy reeds. they are very flexible and gap easier than brass reeds.
jim, are you saying your meisterklasse is ET or just sharp overall? ---------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus
