Hi Steve, is that the Texas Flood backing track. It sounded like it to start with but the harp drowned out the rest and I couldn't be sure.
If it was, we had a little challenge a couple of weeks ago using that track. It's always interesting to see how others approach improvising over the same track.
Oh yes, if ya hate my use of too many warbles this one will really irratate ya. Seriously tho, I do try to improve but we all make progress at our own rate. And even realizing our faults it still takes time to improve and make adjustments. John, you make that statement for every video I load, damn dude how many times do you need to say it? You remind me of a playground bully!
"That's certainly not the Texas Flood background...sounds like the Viagra commercial background music. Seriously, I'm pretty sure it is...!
Steve, I mentioned this once before but I would really try to expand past the warble as your go-to power lick. It can easily be overused."
I like the warble, but the backing track does sound like the Viagra commercial. It's a nice track if you can get the Viagra song out of your head. ---------- Nate Facebook Thread Organizer
Steve, with all due respect,if you don't want criticism, don't post a video here! I have to agree with Joch. If you really want to improve your playing, you have to force yourself out of your ruts. That doesn't just apply to you,but anybody, including myself.
Steve. Didn't mean to set you off. I did mention it one other time you were asking for a critique. After I mentioned again here, I thought that it was a older video made before the last video you asked for a critique on. Anyhow, you have a great vibrato, warble and 2 hole draw..good tone etc. and are having a blast with the harp so all is good.
When Little Sonny was recording for that label in the 70's, what they were trying to do is kinda make him more like the equivalent of an Albert King for the harmonica. The album before that I liked better, but the arrangement of Jimmy Reed's HOnest I Do is killer. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
A lot of that Little Sonny stuff is killer. In my opinion, he's a guy that's worth stealing licks and tunes from. He had really nice tone and his sound is a nice change from the heavily amplified sound. His album, New King Of The Blues Harmonica, has some really cool, really funky stuff on it. His version of "Goin' Down Slow" is one of the coolest versions of that tune done by a harp player.
Steve I didn't like the tone. For my taste it wss too harsh. You might want to move that shake around on the harp to give it some variety.
Little Sony for me is just a boring player. Maybe I always heard his bad stuff. Years ago I had an album of his that was full of funky type blues and his solos seemed like filler more than anything.
Hey Steve i loved both these videos and i am very jelous of your playing i find it melodic and tastefull but also at times really exiting! you do use warbles alot but BLIMEY they are so precise and controlled, i would love to know more about how you got to the point youre at now, Who are your main influences? What albums did you study to shape your style? How long have you been playing? etc please tell us more
