Can you tell me where is this harmonica between those: golden melody, marine band, crossover,manji... is it a good harmonica !??

it is a couple of dollars less than the crossover.

it has a wood comb that is only partially sealed(even though they advertise it as being sealed.)

the crossover uses the same reed plates but has a sealed bamboo comb and is tuned slightly different but not enough to get ones attention.

i would rank them like this, from bottom up. MB,GM,deluxe, and then MANJI/crossover.

the manji is about $47 and the crossover about $57.

the deluxe from rockin' rons is $55 and free shipping. MBs are about $32 and GMs a couple dollars more from ron.

i think it is a great harp. i'm sure there are many people who will disagree with me.

just wait and see.

What is your playing style? What kinds of music? Are you gigging? Do you overblow?

I wouldn't get a MB without planning to work on it.

the only thing I would do to harps is change reedplates I have a flathead and phillips sized just for that purpose have sent a couple to harpwrench for retuning but would only do it with more expensive harps like my classic meisterklasse just play straight head blues have not elevated to overblow yet enjoy playing along with charlie hilbert and ultimate blues jam that I have downloaded

well,

since as groyster points out(the manji is 44.50 w/ free shipping from ron's.) that is a very good choice.

since i fix harps i don't know what to do with spot welded reeds(the MANJI reeds are spot welded rather than riveted). even so, i have a bushman with welded reeds and it seems indestructable.

again, the deluxe is a fine harp. the manji is fine also and cheaper and has a sealed comb. oobs don't get any better than these.

or a custom MB classic... with a fancy hand-made and sealed wooden comb and everything. A bit more expensive than manji though.

Here's how to replace welded reeds ... I think this is what you are referring to:

I've always had a hard time with off the shelf Marine Bands in G, so I bought a MB Deluxe in G. Great harp! Much better than the regular MB in that particular key. I recommend it.

And if you're looking for a high G, spend the bucks and get one from Joe Spiers (aka Harpwrench). I haven't played mine much--it's been sitting on my nightstand--but the other evening I pulled it out and damn! It's an amazing harp. Truly incredibly smooth action on those very high notes.

Kudzu, welcome to the dark side...

For those of us with more mechanical than musical ability, there's nothing better than dissecting a harp and massaging it to the point its performance is world class ... In the process allowing us to play what the masters did on a stock harp.

I've played MB Deluxe's for years, and have half a dozen Crossovers. The MB Deluxes are consistently better than the Crossovers.

I don't know if this is thread-drift, but I feel guilty about owning 20 harps and not practising, and I occasionally fantasize about putting the clock back and just buying MBD's in the keys of G and A and beginning all over again.

It's not just about not practising - OK, I can practise on my G or my A no problem, but I know there's little point in taking that Hering 1923 in E out of its box because it'll sound as though I've never played a harp in my life.

P.S. I've got MBD's in A and Bb. The Bb was disappointing, and still is, and my well-tweaked MB in A plays better than my moderately tweaked MBD in A.
But I'd still seriously consider buying more MBD's, mainly because of their better build. With the better build, I'm sure I'll get around to more serious tweaking one day.

--they are great harps,
they destroy the MB 1896. sometimes i think it is pilot error when someone is critical of high end MBs.

unless they are an old hand at customizing, so they know what they are talking about.

Hi bazzzzou. I'm from Montreal and last night I ordered a second harp from Ron (Manji in A), the guy is great. The first harp I ordered (Seydel Solist Pro in C) I got the call From Ron I was really impress that he would call me in Montreal from California. The shipping outside of the USA's not free. Send I'm an email asking for a freight quote when you have your quote order your harp, you can't pay the quote with your order send i'm a payment for the quote with paypal and send a email confirming that all is payed. My Solist Pro took 10 days to get here and I didn't have to pay any duty fees I think it's because he's using USPS. All my emails have been answered within a few hours. I prefer ordering from Ron than shop localy.
