I have been very worried about a close relative in hospital and I cant seem to pick up me harps in the kitchen as I usually do (for years)
I find myself listening to jazz/rock aka Joe Satriani etc and that seems to blot it out playing air guitar!!
I hope I can kick back..

why hunting of course. Nothing makes a man feel better than killing a helpless animal with a weapon of destruction.
:-)
Don't listen to me. I had a gig last night, rolled in at 4am and haven't been able to sleep more than an hour or so. My eyes are burning, my eyes are burning.

yes, music helps in the bad times
find a deserted concrete stairway in a parking garage and blow those blues away. it might just help
a little wild turkey (not too much the drink not the bird) might help too
chris must be tired, he actually used a smiley face instead of deadpan sense of humor.

You bet it does. My MIL passed away last month from brain cancer and 1 week ago my sister was murdered, while working her job at the local Dairy Queen, by her ex-husband. This has all driven me closer to my music than ever before. My guitar playing friend and I have been writing songs and I can't believe how it is helping me get through these painful times. ----------

@harmonicanick playing is the ultimate solution to your blues. Two things get you feeling better and both you have to push to get your mind to do.
1. Blow the harp. 2. Exercise
Those two things alone will dig you out of the darkest moments. I have a long history of illness in my family and named my first band "Blues Therapy" due to some stuff we were going through and it was the only thing to get my brain to let go of all the negative thoughts that seem to linger.
Force yourself to play, you will feel better and your mind will better equipped to deal with whatever comes your way.
Good Luck!

blues is an expression-not bottling things up inside like so many do until your boiler blows-blues began with the slaves who led miserable, pointless lives but maybe by expressing themselves whilst in the cotton fields that it made life easier and hope that someone like abe lincoln would set them free @scrapboss hate what happened to your sister that is so senseless!

I don't understand y'all. When there's a serious worry on my mind, music is the furthest thing from it.

@Gene, you are correct that music is the furthest thing from it, that is why you have to force it. Music is what breaks that cycle of worry and frees the mind to deal with the worry in more constructive ways. ---------- -- BTMF --

I understand what you mean, but I deal with worries in two ways simultaneously. There's the brooding over it, which just goes with it, and there's the intellectualizing over it-looking for a solution. Part of the pressure to look for a solution is brought about by the desire to relieve myself of the emotional burden (That's what emotions are for.), and partly the realization that a solution must be found. Even if I could escape the emotion, I still couldn't escape the looming problem. (As Buddha once pointed out, my feet are planted firmly on the ground.)
I have found an escape that works for me, though: I can take my dogs for a long walk. The walk relieves the emotional stress, but my mind is still free to work on the problem-if there is a solution.
If there is no solution, though, I still can't force the music. It's like having the flu and somebody puts a nice big dinner in front of you...If ya don't want it, ya don't want it.

@gene I get that. Dog time should have been my number 3. I'm speaking from my experience and what works for me. Harp, Dogs, Exercise and when all else fails whiskey but find that often has a negative effect.
Be Well.

Yes it helps. Due to an injury 15 months ago I have had chronic pain despite two surgeries. If I didn't have my harps and guitar, I would have gone insane by now. No lie.
