At Adam's Hill Country Harmonica, Billy asked me to make him a wood Bullet mic. He doesn't ordinarily perform with a bullet - for that he alternates between his RE-10 and his Ultimate 545. But he wanted something for studio work and maybe some public stuff too. I asked him what kind of wood he wanted and he said "can you make it blue?" Hmmmm. I came up with this.

The wood on the side is a very special piece of cocobolo - prettiest piece of that wood I've ever seen.

Besides, it is fun to say "beautiful blue BB Bullet for Billy Branch".....

Please excuse the shameless self promotion but every time I do a mic on request from a big star, I get excited!

Man...that is beautiful, Greg. I am going to start saving up right now and have you make a mic out of ebony inlaid with lapis lazuli and a sterling silver grill cover.

Greg - our overwhelming need to view mic porn trumps your concern for modesty. Another great job - well done!

Nice mic. Greg did you use aniline dye for the blue or is it something else?

@Silvertone - I honestly don't know what kind of dye it is. I bought it at a Woodcraft store - but the bottle doesn't say. The tough thing is that I had to apply the dye after the mic was turned to final shape, and yet prevent it from "wicking" across to the cocobolo. I experimented with a few techniques before settling on the one I used.

Stunning. Wish I got a closer look at your fine work at HCH. Just too much good music to distract, I guess.

A beauty! Greg, please do some experiment on colored wooden mics, it looks very interesting and my craving is building up.

Greg, not only builds superb mics but is a wonderful person and provides class A+ service. I love mine with the initail grill and black CR.
