Someone brought up a question about Indian music in another thread and that got me thinking again about my post where I translated harmonica into a bunch of languages. I was able to make a document that had all the translations, including the foreign alphabets they are written in, but I've never been able to figure out how to get foreign characters to post in the forum. I've cut and paste them into the forum, but they turn into ????'s when I post. I know for HTML code there is a little translator that will turn your HTML code into a format that will show up in a post. Is there such a thing for language? Do any of you programmers or foreign language users know how to do it?

That is, without alt coding ever single translation (can you even alt code Arabic?)

It's possible, but you need to specify the character encoding in the headers of the document. on a forum post you can't do that. There might be some workaround script somewhere.

Maybe you could do it with css? I know you can display non-standard fonts, but it requires them to be on the users system. CSS lets you import and embed fonts.

Seems like a big hassle though.

Yeah. I was even thinking about embedding a bunch of tiny images of the words as hot link images. I've looked through the code on the Google page that I was copying the word from and trying to find the code, but I don't know enough HTML to find what I'm looking for. I can cut and paste the word into YouTube and YouTube recognizes it. I found a lot of Japanese harmonica videos that way. I suppose I could just make a bunch of links to YouTube searches for each translation.
