I am having a lot of fun and frustration in playing this baby.
Difficult to control the notes and the breathing to make them happen but still great sound on 1/2 draw and blow. To amplify with band may be problematic due to quiet reeds at the bottom. All the octaves sound really good (at least to me in the kitchen!)
I think I will use it live on my own, maybe during the break between sets with the band. Very atmospheric sounding harmonica.
Any harpers got one of these? Has anyone else got this one
i just got a low d from rockin ron on friday... the one draw bend? i haven't hit it yet... not sure if i ever will. hell, the two draw bend is hard enough, you really have to TRY to hit it every time. very much not automatic like on most other harps...i cant make my "cavity" large enough to hit that one draw bend...a LLF, not even gonna try. ---------- Kyzer's Travels Kyzer's Artwork
I have a Seydel LLF too. I think it is best suited for playing alone in a quiet room - I've never tried it in performance. But DAMN is it fun!
Have you noticed if you play a 1 draw and immediately switch to a 1 blow, the 1 draw reed is still in its pendulum act, and you get a mixture of the two notes - doesn't sound good. I've tried various ways to try to stop it before blowing (like a quick tongue slap, or a tiny puff) but none help a lot. ---------- /Greg
Many people have problems with keys lower than G and it is not surprising. You do need to get used to using less breath force to get the most out of them and playing very physically relaxed cannot be overstressed. A very important thing that fedw players realize is that they DO need to make adjustments in both their embouchure and even more importantly, the inside shape of the mouth so that you're playing with a very relaxed, very open throat, which is also important for a vocalist and playing physically uptight and trying to force things to happen will only make things more difficult when playing harps tuned from G and lower. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
It sounds like the foghorn on one of those WW2 aircraft carriers in the black and white war films in the '60's!! I think I will incorporate that into my open mic solo act.
Bob you are right on with your advice,I am very relaxed:)
I used a weird lip smack on my LLF to record this and then played a track over the top on a regular Bb. I was struggling a little to get the reeds to respond the way I needed in time for the beat.
Shoot, I had to disable the player. It was autoplaying. You can still cut and paste it into your browser. I've got to get set for our song writers circle so I can't fix it now. I remember there was some strange fix I had to do for Dropbox in Chrome.
Here is what that sound looks like.

If that's a Soul's Voice, those are made by Seydel as they're the only company making Low Low F's. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
i think that bushman might have had them making the souls voice in low low F, and then a while after soul's voice discontinued offering it, sydel picked up offering the same tuning (but with different covers at least)
