I've seen him at least once live, and he's still good. I'm thinking about bringing him over to Hill Country next year. Here's one of his best-known tracks, "Steady":
Oh yeah Jerry McCain is great. I have long been a fan of his music. Those two particular tracks are his most well known among harp players. The amplified harp tone on both of those cuts is simply wonderful. ----------
Back in the late 60's, he was one of the first harp players to record playing thru a Leslie on a tune called Midnight Blue on the Jewel label. I also have a 45 from the 70's that had previously unreleased stuff from that same session that produced Steady and She's Tough. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
I love "Boogie's" tone. I first discovered him on Kenny Wayne Shepard's DVD "10 Days Out". Great CD/DVD combo of Kenny, Chris Layton, and Tommy Shannon (SRV's bandmates Double Trouble) spending 10 days in the south jamming with various blues legends.
Jerry does a song called Potato Patch Blues with Kenny. Love it. I understand he is of the mindset that if he didn't write the song he shouldn't record it. His songs are very clever. He knew Little Walter too.
Adam, if you get Jerry "Boogie" McCain I'm reserving my spot that day. This guy is a treasure. Listen to what he says at 5:55
He did a tune in the late 60's called Welfare Cadillac Blues that was fairly controversial at the time. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
Steady steady steady! people get ready...here comes Jerry McCain...watch out! Alot of players don't know "steady". Like Whammer Jammer, it's a pre requisite...Harmonica 101
