Saw him last Friday at a cafe in my home town of Sausalito Ca. He is very versatile on both the diatonic and chromatic and put on a real good performance. Found out about it on his website based on his Buddha's Phoenix workshop thread a few weeks ago.

I would recommend his performance to any harp player.

I'm gonna hit his show in KC this week, and Lawrence, KS over the weekend. Might even get Missus ness to attend one or both.

I was lucky enough to catch Mr Power playing in San Rafael last week. What an incredibly beautiful tone!

Haven't seen him live, but I enjoy his YouTube videos. He posted a couple here where he beatboxed!

Brendan Power made a stop in KC (that's Kansas City, Missouri, USA) this past weekend.

He put on a clinic at a local music store Saturday afternoon. It was a real up-close-and-personal kinda thing -- interacting with the dozen or so people there.

He talked a lot about his various harps (all Suzuki). He's a real tinkerer: he had a bunch of specially-tuned harps, both diatonic and chromatic. He also had a 13-hole one he made by cutting two harmonicas and gluing them together. The one he used the most for his demonstrations was a valved Promaster with an acrylic comb.

He also demonstrated what he's been working on with loops. He's got a couple effects pedals and some other gadget that his mic is hooked into. He'd play about 10-seconds of a harmonica riff, then lay a vocal bass line on top, then lay a vocal track on, etc. He'd get about three or four layers built up that play over and over. Then he'd add his live harp on top. Very hard to explain, and I certainly can't describe the end product, but it was truly amazing. Not so much the technical stuff, more the fact that he can create these totally different sounding layers that somehow meld together.

Saw him perform at a local bar/restaurant last night with a local guy named Billy Ebeling. It was just those two, with Billy playing acoustic guitar, banjo, ukulele, and harmonica. It was a mix of Blues, Rock, Motown, Irish, Bulgarian and popular music. It was just incredible to see the creativity of these guys. "Over the Rainbow" on ukulele and harp! "Second That Emotion", slowed waaaay down and done on banjo and harp! He did a beautiful Irish ballad in which he started, then paused and added a funky bass line on his effects pedal, then somehow got those two going together.

Anyhoo -- it was one of those performances that just sucks you in: I found myself smiling the whole time. Even got goosebumps a few times. He takes the harp into places that it just shouldn't be, then makes you think it should have always been there.
