Hi guys (and gals):

I would call myself an advanced beginner player and I'm now at the point where I feel confortable enough to busk or to incorporate some harp playing at gigs.

So I really want my harps to be in tune. I bought a Richard Sleigh tool kit and book (both of which I find very useful) and I've started working on tuning flat or sharp reeds.

Now I'm realising that I'm missing a tuner. What could you guys recommend me? Should I just use an online tuner to get the root note and then just trust my ears (while listening to beats in octaves) to tune the rest of the harp? Or what else?

Thanks
Mathieu

This is a good one. Also is a metronome.

@H2H Richard Sleighs book suggests a cheap tuner by Korg (I forget the number), but for some reason it has been discontinued. I did some research and the best replacement for it is the Korg CA-1. I found it for around $12 at buy dot com. It's probably the cheapest tuner you can get with all the features you need to tune harps, obviously there are better ones.

I haven't had the guts to tune a harp yet but there's a very comprehensive online tuner here

Not sure if it would meet your requirements though.

It's accurate and captures the sound well (not all of them do). It also has a metronome and is small and portable. Takes double A batteries. It's easy to read. I like that it has a meter with a needle(not all do).

I bought a Korg CA-30 after hearing Richard Sleigh recommend it, and Ive been happy with it. I didnt know it was discontinued, I think it was about $30 AUD.

Thanks for the advice, I went ahead and bought a Korg CA-1 which is what replaced the CA-30.
