not really. He's a better harp player than drummer but he can't find work as a harp player and he can't seem to keep a drummer in his band that wants to play with the "great" bill tarsha for free.... go figure.
Tarsha is actually a pretty nice guy especially when he figures out that you can see his bullshit. When I first met him, all he did was drop names. Then he started making up stuff like how he gets harmonicas from Joe Filisko for free... he didn't know that Joe was a close friend. Then he made the mistake of showing me one of his "filiskos" which was nothing more than an out of the box marine band.
"Joe only makes these for the best players and nobody can get them. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess..."
Then I let him play a real Filisko harmonica. My point to him was clear and he's been very cool with me ever since.

The blues scene here is abysmal at best. Most of the musicians really suck. The drummers are some of the worst of the bunch and they are either utter rubbish or they are world-class. Janet Jackson's drummer lives here, Mariah Carey's drummer lives here and Michael Jackson's former drummer lives here.
If you can't get one of them then good luck finding a guy that can keep a simple rhythm. I'm lucky to have MJ's former touring drummer in my band.

hey buddha, you get around.
that is a strange story because of the wacky claim tarsha made. not the drumming.
to say you get FREE harps from the single most important harp customizer whom almost single handedly changed the industry and how the harp should respond is..... out there.
it is my understanding that filisko has to like you first. then you gotta pay him as you should.

Chris, it sounds like I`d be chewing up and spitting out musicians left and right and I have no tolerance for bad drummers and bass players. A friend of mine from the Providence, RI area who I originally knew as a terrific guitarist, after he returned from spending 8 years on the West Coast, became a bass player because he had a tough time finding one that suited him (and he became a great one) wound up working even more gigs than ever before, including doing a couple of years on the road with Duke Robillard (and to cut that gig, you REALLY had to know Blues and Jazz cold). ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

AZ is really cliquey... after you run into the "right" people then things are easier in the sense you get to play with awesome musicians but then there is the ego thing where some of those guys can't wrap their head around making $100/nt vs $4000/nt somewhere in another country.
It's weird here. ----------

Ouch! That is pretty bad. I`ve done some pick up gigs where a drum machine was preferable to the drummer on the gig. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
