when adam came through little rock early this year he had a boss dd5 delay pedal that worked great for him. last thursday one of the student who attended adam's workshop with me had a dd5 hooked up to his blues junior. it worked really well even on battery.

i don't know much at all about the other delays. i used to own a boss delay and played around with it for a few years before i let it go, thinking i wouldn't need it. and true, i don't. but it DID sound really nice last week!

boris, iv'e tried a JT-30 w/ mexican CM into an analog delay pedal and then straight into the PA.(my amplifier went missing). it sounded really good. when my amp did show up at the gig i didn't bother to hook it up. i just kept playing.

There's been a lot of talk in this thread about the danecho. I bought one back when it was "the" pedal that everyone was talking up a few years ago. I had Ron Holmes modify it with the op amp and improved jacks. My friend used to use a vintage tube Echoplex so we A/B'd it with the pedal and were amazed at how close it came...if we kept the length of the time low the way he normally used the EP. I'm playing through a Meteor most of the time and never use a delay with it. However, this w/e I used an amp that I've been working on [2x6L6 cathode biased and 1x15"]. The Danecho sounded great! I've got a LW octave pedal which I really dig for some amps in some situations but I wouldn't get rid of the DE just to replace it with the LW. YMMV
All the best,
Jay

boris,
IBANEZ CD10 DELAY CHAMP, made in the '80s (i think.)

perhaps most delays will perform as well. i don't know. the sound is nice and full. of course it is not crunchy. i blended the reverb on the PA and it was very.....round?

i do not see how using a vocal mic only, through a delay into the PA could yield bad results.

Oh yes---it's all a symbiotic relationship. Just like certain amps sound better with certain mics, certain pedals sound better (or worse) depending on the mic being used, even going into a PA. Personally, after the harmonica itself, I believe the single most important piece of gear is the mic.

Btw, i agree that a delay chained in front of reverb can sound pretty cool if they're mixed right.

yup...this LONE WOLF HARP DELAY (first one) was brand new, and is truly a "TONE SUCKIN PC A SHIT". Sorry....thanks MP
Help me out here. It might be a factory defect. So before we convict the poor sap who made it. I'm looking in to sending it back to see if there might actually be something wrong with it. Bad for biz. I heard good things about it, too.Stay tuned...

did we run out of things to talk about?
I doubt the thing would sound any better with a different type of mic. I mean, I tried em all...I think.
