Awsome song. I love the interplay between the two, each giving the other plenty of space at the right times.
Big Walter's sound is legendary, but I love hearing his simple accompaniments that propel the groove while giving the spotlight to Jimmy Rogers in this one.
Bob: What kind of thing is that on the seat next to Walter? A vintage PA head? Was he blowing through that for the harp? I love old gear and the quality of the video is too grainy to make anything out. That looks like an old Shure Vocal Master PA head, which if you got the earlier, all tube, hi-z input only ones, were great for harp. I've seen BW enough times going thru all different borrowed amps and he always sounds like himself, and it usually was pretty heavy.
When those bad boys came out in the mid 60's, that was state of the art for a portable PA, but compared to the stuff that's around now, that's a dinosaur. Low-z inputs didin't start to appear on PA's until the late 70's-early 80's. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
thanks Bob! It looks like it has some meters on each channel. I had the newer version that had the tall skinny columns. It was pretty heavy I remember. I know you have the passport PA like I have. They are pretty darn good for the money and ease of transport. I would like to try one of those old vocal masters and see how they sound compared to todays stuff. I use an old altec lansing PA mixer for a mic preamp in my studio. It is a tube one, that is the same model they used at woodstock. It has 5 inputs (they had a load of them at woodstock) and one master output. It has a nice fat sound to it. I use it on my snare drum.
