Hello guys!

Don't know if people remember but a while ago I asked for some advise for my first gig.. Well,on Friday we had our first job. We practised on the Tuesday before and I played like shit. And I was really worried how it would go...

But it was a complete success:) The entire band played just great. People were dancing and shouting and the owner said that this was the best Friday ever on the pub. There were 70 people who payed to get in and that's very good in this area. We played for nearly two hours and people still wanted to more. It was the best night of my life and a huge boost for my motivation. I just can't wait until next time. Unfortunately, the drummer is busy with other things this summer so we have to wait until the fall to play gigs..

I would like to thank you guys for everything I've learned here and every good advise. It's a part of the success. And of course Adam.. He's the biggest reason..

Damn,I'm so high on this experience,I'm having trouble landing:) Oh,well. Back to welding tomorrow so I guess I'll touch down then:)

Congrats Thor - There is no feeling quite like it!! It is a real buzz. Don't want to be a downer, but watch out for the second one. Put the same amount of preparation into it. When the first one goes so well everyone thinks they got it in the bag and relaxes a bit too much and things go wrong fast.
But if you have that much time between the two, I'm sure you will be fine - good work - I'm glad it went well!! ;-)

Tis sweet to rock the house! Congratulations!

I can dig what you say about getting back to welding.

The transition from musical avatar to carpenter is sometimes a little anticlimactic for me!

Such is life!

my wife used to call me super man- mild mannered warehouse guy by day, guy with a harp case and a big S on my shirt, sweeping the stages by night! which is something of an exaggeration. but i remember well how my first live dates went. some good, some not so much. we were more ambitious than skilled or versed back then and it did show. but we made up in volume and enthusiasm for what we didn't know how to do at the time. not recommended. my friend and brother jawbone is 100% on that.

always always -play from the heart. audiences will forgive technical mistakes and reward you if they believe you are playing from the heart.

Unfortunately, the drummer is busy with other things

Thor, life's too short, get another drummer who is not busy.

You have to be very determined to play live music with a band, and you have to have people who are focused and reliable.

Life is short but I really like this drummer. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't be playing the gig:) he has been playing for nearly 30 years, but not much blues. But he really likes to play with us and he knew the bass-player that joined us. He's also a guy with 30 years exp. The rest of the band is me on harp and my brother on guitar and vocal. We don't have much stage-exp. so I think he's worth waiting for, because he has a lot of contacts and knows tons of people that could open some doors for us. On our gig we had a very good PA-system that we hired for a small amount. He also knew the sound man who worked with us that night. He has actually won some prises in Norway with his band that plays some Scandinavian dance-music and his band makes alot of money so I understand that he has to play with them in the summer season...

But we practise every week and we'll be even better when the fall comes:) So he is focused and reliable and me and my brother learn a lot from him. I think it would be stupid of us to kick him out;-)

Ok thor I understand now, he has his own band playing Scandinavian dance-music and makes a lot of money.

Try and turn that to your advantage, suggest your band support his at his dance gigs for say, a half hour set to get the crowd warmed up.

By the way what is Scandinavian dance-music?

I don't know how to explain it.. Go to youtube and search for Vikingarna. That's a famous band that plays that sort of music.. They sing in Swedish. A lot of the bands that play that kind of music sing in Swedish. I think that's where it came from:)
