I send this message to the SuzukiHarmonicas channel on youtube last September. I thought it was the company's channel, but it looks like it's Brendan's "official" Suzuki channel... my mistake....
Anyway, here is most of the message and perhaps Brandan or anybody else can help me out here, because I really would like to try a Manji...
Manji and allergy
Sorry to bother, since I'm sure you're pretty busy, but I have a question about the reed plates of the new Manji harp. I currently play Suzuki Harpmasters and Delta Frosts from Bushman. The reason for this is that, when I first started out playing on a Marine Band and Golden Melodies, the protruding reed plates caused some reaction to my lips (irritation and red spots (?) after only playing 15 minutes or so). From time to time I still pull those harps out, but the result is still the same.... Being a big Suzuki fan, I really would like to get my hands (actually, lips) on the new Manji, so here is (finally) my question: Are the reeds plates made of the same material as the Hohner MB and GMs? And are they protruding?
Sincerely,
Anybody else experiencing the same problem with protruding reed plates? Would the Manji give the same problems? Does anybody know?

I've been playing the Manji for nearly a year and had no allergy issues, nor heard of any. Mind you, I don't have them with Hohners either, so I guess our physiologies are different. I suppose the only way to find out is to suck it and see.

@Buddha - Thanks for taking the time B, and yes... shaving the reed plates down was the first thing that came to my mind too.. but then I realized that I don't have the equipment, patience and skills... plus, I also favor simple solutions... that's why just got HarpMasters and Deltas..... I don't even want to think what would happen if one of the reeds became misaligned or out of tune, while trying to trim the plates..... can you say "reed plates from hell"? Thanks anyway!
@Kyzer - "not how to prepare a cucumber for long term back door lovin'..." Nice going K, talking about simple ingenuity... bet the ladies love this one...
@Brendan - I guess from your answer that the Manji plates are protruding ... now if only somebody would let me suck on his (Manji!!) for ten minutes or so.... otherwise I have to buy one, with the risk of it becoming the most expensive lollipop I ever had.... As much as I would like to buy one (they're about 3,500 yen here in Japan) I much rather play it save and ask around... if that doesn't work... well, the next time I need a new harp I get me another Delta or HarpMaster....
Btw. Isn't there anybody out there who has allergy problems with protruding Hohner plates or heard of somebody who has? I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one.. ---------- DutchBones Tube

Dutch like Mr Spiers said , the plates fit in the Harpmaster comb , so if you don't get along with the protruding plates you just get them installed in the plastic comb , so theres no money wasted , you still get the long slot suzuki reeds in a recessed comb. Ps : In my first review of Manji i posted some pictures with the manji plates in the harpmaster and bluesmaster body Look at the last set of photos , at the bottom of the page
