did a gig yesterday playing a 5F6H this guy built from internet specs. he loaded the cab with a 10" and an 8". freaking tone monster!!
the guy who built it is a guitar guy and just did it as a lark. what is the story behind these puppys?

thanks Joe L.
the guy who built it said it was sort of a champ/princeton thing but it didn't sound anything like all the champs and princetons i've owned or heard. this thing was creamy funky goodness like the revenge of jerry McCain.

Was it a 5F2H?

I'm betting it was a 5F2H... one 6L6 single ended, or it could be a KT66. It was originally designed by Bruce Collins of Mission amps, and sold by Ted Weber as a kit. It was not really a Champ/Princeton clone, but was inspired by the old Premier Twin 8 circuit. I own a 5F2H, and it is the baddest 10-watt harp amp around. It is indeed a "freaking tone monster."

Bruce Collins also created the killer new mid-sized Mission Chicago amp.

OOPS!! that sucker is a 5F2H. it had a 3 way toggle voiceing switch( i liked the first setting). if you had a not so good mic i'll bet the other 2 settings would set it right. they gave more mids and bottom (to my ears) but that muddied up my CR biscuit. i used to have a Premier twin 8 and this was like old home week. the dude is selling these for $800. top mounted chickenhead volume and tone, nice blue tolex and white/gold diagonal grille.

guess i have a 5f6h then. built by stave clark of sligo amps. it is an awesome amp for harp.

my first amp was a '62 princeton tremolo. NEVER hock your amp unless you don't really want it!

i have also a mid 60's silvertone 1482, very similar to the princeton tremolo but with a bigger- 12" instead of 10"- speaker. it's also a great toned amp.

EV, no... Bruce Collins designed the circuit and it was sold is a kit by Weber. Adam at Tungsten Amps is one amp tech who does a good job of building them.

EV. the guy's name is ELLIS BOURBONEAUX and you've never heard of him and he lives in HONOLULU. he's a fantastic luthier aside from amp builder. i've been to his shop. he lives about a mile away from me. he has no web site i'm aware of.
i think the parts kit runs $400 from WEBER.

The kit from Weber is $460. That is with a 10-inch speaker (a good one... a 10A125-0 Weber).
