I remember a pretty good quality clip of Kim playing a first position slow blues solo. It was acoustic. I might be wrong about the 1st position part, but it was a high end acoustic solo that just killed.
I say this all the time, but he, out of any and all blues guys, is my favorite. Maybe it is because his music is so much easier to access as he is the product of a time where there are videos, recordings, etc...But from day one I've always had a love of his singing and playing.
Listening to Kim's Early in the Morning from Smoking Joint right now... Also fixated on Cleo's Mood, Shakin the Boogie and Chicago Bound (from other CD's he plays on).
Barrelhouse Chuck is bad ass. My favorite tune on that CD is "The Bright Sounds of Big Moose." It's a tribute to Big Moose Walker. There is no harp on it. Beautiful stuff.
Does anyone know what harp key he is using on "Early in the morning" off "Smokin Joint"? I have trying to use a Brad Harrison marine band A harp. I cant get any blow bends out of this thing. May be the wrong key totally. I wish there was a damn list somewhere. :)
On "Early in the Morning" from "Smokin' Joint",Kim uses a D harp in 2nd position for the intro,a G harp in 3rd position for the solo, and back to a D harp in 2nd for the rest.
