Hi all,
Don't know if this has been asked before. I saw a video of Shakey Horton (Down Home Shake Down with Big Mama Thorton) in which he plays amazing wah phrases. I would really like to learn to play those phrases but the more I try the more I realize that without learning the technique I'm not going far. Any tips, books, websites? Help is greatly appreciated.
Best regards, Robert

Post a couple samples of exactly what you're talking about and I'm sure some people will give you some advice. Harp players are lazy. They don't like going looking for video, but once you get them talking they will be back, and in greater numbers. (Too embed a YouTube video, just hit the little embed tab under the video. A box of code will appear underneath it. Copy the stuff in the box and put in your post and viola!)
Edit- and welcome to the forum! If you haven't checked out the forum how-to page. It's got some good tips and a map you can check out and if you want, add a pin to. The link is under Adam's introduction on the main forum page.

I know that wahwah like the back of my hand from seeing him right before my eyes live. You have to have a tight cup and the wahwah is done more with the fingers, with the knuckle of the hands as a pivot as opposed using to the entire hand. If the cup is not tight, it won't work properly. Many players will mistake this for trying to keep time, which here is completely untrue. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Robert - It'll come with practice and time. Watch the video over and over again and keep trying it until you get it. Bob gave away the secret, but you're going to have to practice it a lot.
The strange thing for me is that's how I first learned to do the wahwah effect. My Dad taught it to me when I was six. Several of the Chicago guys pivoted with the knuckles.
