I went to a open mic and got talking to a banjo player who, after I had played my little set asked me to duet with him.
He then asked me to do a gig on Saturday night with his band.
It's a bit ad hoc and mad, there's banjo, guitar and fiddle [I think] and they play sort of skiffley irish music.
They also have an opera singer and baritone player on Saturday so who knows what will happen.

:^)

Sounds fun, and eclectic! If you have the means to record audio and/or video, do so, even if for your own benefit.

Way to go Squirt! (Exactly how do you address a Lumpy Wafflesquirt? :)

If you get stuck in first pos don't forget to try 12th as well with the Irish tunes. Not sure how the skiffly part will influence that, but it's worked for me.

Todd- That's not eclectic- there was a band at the open mic I used to go to that played a trombone with a broken slide, a trumpet with a crushed bell, a saw and a typewriter!

Although to be fair, they got the saw and the typewriter to sound pretty good.

Have fun Lumpy!

Blue - Call me what ever you like.... You may be surprised to learn that Lumpy Wafflesquirt is not me real name :^)

Forgot to say, the gig is for the Monster Raving Loony party at their Manefesto launch :^)

I will try to record it on my MD recorder.

the band can be found at lunacybanduk on youtube.

I have had gigs in the past, but not for about 8 months.

Of all the gigs I have played, that was one of them.

The later it got the more drunk the band got [except me, I only drink water] and the worse they played/sang.
There was no set list, not even a 'library list' so the programme was very ad hoc.
I was sat next to the banjo player who was very loud, [I'm glad it wasn't amplified.]
The band members kept wandering off and coming back.
At one point the Lead singer put down his guitar and stormed off in huff, but I don't know what that was about. I left at about 12:45 and they were still going, although it was then down to one band member playing/singing and asking the audience what to play.

There was no money in it, but it was a bit of a laugh, but I don't think it will further my musical 'career' although the barone/cajon player did say he'd let me know about sessions in his area [he was also visiting so didn't get as drunk as the others]. He was pleased that I had heard of Brendam Power !!
The Party candidate was keep on harp playing and specifically requested 'Stone Fox Chase' which fortunately I play so that went down well.

I did record it, but it was a bit loud so I don't expect I will bother to keep it.

Edit:
Having just seen the thread that Micha bumped, yes I did take my A game. I always try to. That was how I got the gig from the open mic. and I think thet band was reasonably impressed by my playing.

Someone has posted a youtube of Sturday night :^(

just so you can see what it was like.
I am just off the left hand side of the video.

If you listen carefully you can hear the harp, and when I swapped to Kazoo.... it seemed appropriate.
