my A crossover kicked my A marine band deluxes ass.
i decided to upgrade the MBD with the usual, sealed comb, embossing, etc. now the MBD kicks the crossovers ass in all aspects of playability and even volume.
so,
i switched the combs and the MBD got warmer but still killed. the crossover with the deluxe comb lost it's edgyness.
i switched 'em back and now i'm wondering if i should fix something that ain't broke(the CO). don't get me wrong. the crossover is my favorite OOB harp yet.
maybe i'll leave it alone and just stick to customizing 1896s and MBDs.
i really believe that BBQ is right when he says a custom harp always trumps an OOB. he said something of the sort on the MANJI thread.

same harp, different comb and covers.

The crossover I have here have plates from april 2007, I don't believe the crossover was around then.

BUDDHA, the deluxe plates are oct. 2005 and the crossover is nov. 2007 but i get your point.

i noticed the extra brass(that rectangular build-up) on the tips of the lower reeds of the crossover to be a significant amount more than on the deluxe reeds.
i don't know why that is so.

by the way, i saw i vid of you working on a GM with a socket and a swiss knife filisko gave you. you said if you were to do that harp for yourself you would move the reeds away from the slot.
i owe you one. that was the secret technique i was missing(embossing) in my resurecting old junk harps and upgrading new ones.
thanks,
