Hi everybody.
When I play with my band, the energy level seems to literally transform me into a different player. This happens at practice and even more so at a gig. I am also singing more lead lately, due to some scheduling issues with out lead singer. At last night's practice, I heard myself doing things i never even tried before with jam tracks or even our own album to play along with. The album was made before i was in the band and i just did some percussion work on it for them back then.
Any tips on how to simulate that energy with a jam track? Maybe some better tracks? Turning up the volume is not an option for the sake of my ears, even thought louder tends to simulate more energy from my experience, as you become less inhibited from not "sticking out" when the music is louder.
The day after a band practice, i am exhausted..a good kind of tired....lol.
Have at it. Tell me what you do to practice alone with as much energy as you can muster.

When practising a piece, visualise playing it to someone. Close your eyes and imagine them listening to you playing.Think about a particular person, wife, partner, whatever, and play for them. Use whatever emotion you feel towards them and try to express it through the harp. When I first read about this I was a bit sceptical, but it does help.
I use it a lot whilst playing piano.

If you can't turn the music up, turn the rest of the world down. Sometimes closing your eyes helps, or you could try listening on headphones with a mic (although you still have to worry about volume levels.) Sometimes standing instead of sitting helps. You can get more body action going.

Today i just decided to do more classical music inspired practice. Something different. It helped and I dialed some more PA settings into my pedal and experiemnted with DI straight in from a hand made mic of mine. That worked out great and i repeated some of my favorite licks and riffs to make comparisons. Still nothing like live though...lol. I do practice standing up most of the time, but when I get tired i end up sitting down until my lips get sore...then i just quit.

We put our first concert on this past Saturday, with about 45 guests in the audience. And I gotta tell you, weve been practicing the same 25 songs for three months, and we N E V E R sounded better than we did that night. Absolutely brought the house down. cops showed up after the last electric set...8 calls from neighbors complaining about noise from 8-10p. it was legendary!!!
We played better than we ever have in practice, and well to be honest, when it comes to playing in front of people....im fucking hooked!!!!!!!! ---------- Kyzer's Travels

I have played in bands for the last 20+ years until last August. now I get a blow once a month at an open mic. I really miss not playing with and for people, but I will be playing in a band by the end of May. ---------- "Come on Brackett let's get changed"
