Weed and I are going out tonight blow up an open mic session. I don't have a clue what we're going to play but we're going to give them sounds they've never heard.

From what I understand you can watch it live starting at 7pm PDT (yes I know we're always on MST but nobody else seems to know that)

Mountain Standard Time, an hour ahead of PST(Pacific Standard Time),an hour behind CST(Central Standard Time), and two hours behind EST(Eastern Standard Time)

Oklahoma is on CST, I believe.

At this time of year, Arizona time is the SAME as Pacific (aka California) time. We don't do daylight savings here.

So the demons are lurking, out to cause some trouble, eh?
So what's it worth to you for me not to call the place and forwarn them of the impending doom?

I gotta retire and I'm not above a little blackmail, graft and payolla to get there sooner.

Pay up or I link up between ma' bell and cave creek coffee.

call them if you want. There is no stopping the destruction of all the singer song writer minds who may be in attendance.

Around 7yrs ago I was invited to an open mike in Somers Pt.,N.J..John Kinder had just sent my modded Ampeg VT 40 back a few weeks prior so I was excited to show her off and brought her along for the ride.Anyway the house Harp man was playing through his Holland Harp rig single 12 I believe, great tone but was totally being buried by the rock star want to be G-men.Anyway after they,re set I told the Harper(Larry)dude your getting buried up there, your tone is great when I can hear you,but otherwise your just going through the motions.(for those of you that havn,t heard the Holland, which I believe aren,t made anymore but if you got a good one they had a nice, full dirty tone)Anyway I said My Man Larry,Do me a flavor and plug into this Bad Boy(the VT) next set and glance over at the G-men and say Ha,Ha.He did and by the end of the set or should I say probrably the middle the rock stars had tears in they,re eyes and were whining that that amp is too loud, could you turn it down.At the end of the gig the main man(G-Man) that was running the gig said Don,t bring that amp here anymore, its too loud.I said Boo Hoo,and as R.L. Burnside once said,"I Ain,t Been Back Since" Bottom line Sometimes You,ve Gotta Fight Fire With Fire.

The club was about an hour away from my house. This was the first time I've been to that open mic and it's regarded at the best one in town. This is a place that is know for booking national and international level talent and the open mic is very selective about who they allow on stage.

We actually went up there not to destroy it but because we wanted to jam with the guitarist from my group and he lives a few minutes from the venue.

We got there, met with Victor and walked into the music room. They saw Vic and I walk in and were asked if we wanted to play right away.

So we unsheathed our instruments of sonic destruction and stepped on stage within three minutes of walking into the club.

I explained to the audience who Buckweed is and what we've been doing all week. Then I asked Weed to play whatever he felt like. We grooved out in A minor, it turned into a heavy funk and then mad its way into a arabic version of summertime.

Then Weed went into a Bb minor chordal vamp on his six string. Vic picked it up and I made up a sweet melody.

Then we did a WAY WAY WAY uptempo version of The Flintstones.

I can safely say we absolutely destroyed the place. The whole house went nuts after every tune. We walked in, played out asses off and then left as quickly as we arrived. Then it was off to another pro jazz jam featuring a bunch of Grammy Award players who are in town for a Jazz Fest that begins today.

I talked to Vic this morning, we got offered a gig at the coffee company, offered another gig at a place down the road and were asked about playing at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival next month and if not available next month, they want us next year.

Destruction complete.

It's great having Weed around, we've been playing music all day and all night.

It's not often you see a six string bass, and being played by such an exceptional talent.

He must surely gravitate to the jazz field to fully employ his ability.

That's the way to get gigs. Just go in and own the room.
Reminds me the early days of Jimmy Bruno. He would get
a date at a club and before you know it he owned the weekend gigs and filled the place every night.

I hope the same happens for you.

Ahem....and the Buddha harps? They build themselves perhaps? :)

(Just teasing Chris. I want mine to soak up all that mojo music vibe first before it heads out the door.)
